Rear left barn door wont open and passenger rear wiper will not work
2009 MINI Clubman non turbo.
I am a little confused by this situation and not sure if these two are related or not. The MINI had this issue when I purchased it so I do not have the history on how / when this part broke. Left (US driver) barn door latch will not open and the passenger (US passenger) door wiper does not work. I have verified that the motor/actuator in the left barn door is good by plugging it into the passenger side and it worked. Placing the passenger door latch in the driver side and it will not work there. The plug to the left latch only has two wires (brown and yellow). The driver side door latch has four wires in its plug. I verified all of the fuses were good.
Left (drivers) wiper motor works only when both doors are closed. Right (passenger) side does not work at all. I have attempted swapping with a used motor that was supposed to be good but that too did not work.
Are these two possibly related?
Does the right wiper share any wires with the left door latch?
Is there a sensor to indicate that the door is open that may not be working properly?
How many wires should be going to the latch on the left barn door?
Currently I have the trim off so I can manually trip the latch with a pick.

Did you ever find the solution for this issue? Thanks!

You need to check the JBE. I was having issues starting which lead to the JBE fuel pump solenoid. After initially taking the JBE apart and resoldering it things seem to be working as normal.
A month down the road the issue reoccured. So, I replaced the JBE with one from a R56 gave me all the symptoms you are describing. If you look on the side of the JBE (you may have to remove the plastic panel) you will find
the JBE part number. My original was L4/R55 The spare I bought was a L4/R56 which only has a hatch and one wiper. Which explains why only one door and one wiper works.
I'm reworking my original JBE to resolve the barn door issue, otherwise I'll need to find a way to run power to the left side barn door.
I have exactly the same problem: left barn door doesn't open and right rear wiper doesn't work. What can cause this? I had the JBE replaced with a new one (i'll check the part).
I'm hoping someone here can share their wisdom because I have the exact same problem with a non-runner Clubman project I picked up recently. The car had sat for almost a year, and in that time the sunroof drains clogged and water got in, destroying the JBE in the process. I bought a new one from WMW and had it programmed. The car fired right up after its long slumber and now I'm tidying up other things that were broken or neglected. After replacing the sunroof cassette, I turned my attention to the stuck door. It took awhile to figure out how to pop the left barn door manually, but I eventually got it. I just received a new door actuator from ECS Tuning, but unfortunately that's not my problem. I tried both the old and new actuators using the passenger side connector and both work properly. After reading this thread I tried the rear wipers - surprise, the passenger side wiper doesn't work!
I separated the connector at the driver's door handle and probed for voltage. One pin has 12 volts present, so I jumped the two terminals together with a paper clip. My logic was if the handle was faulty the actuator would click. No love there either. I just checked the labeling on the sides of both the old and new JBEs, and there's no labeling suggesting either goes to either an R55 or R56. So, I'm appealing to the collective wisdom here - what should I do next?
Had the same issues only that the left (driver's barn door) wouldn't open and none of the rear wipers/defrosters worked. Solved it by replacing the defective barndoor latch mechanism, solved the unlocking and wipers/defrost on both doors.
Hope it helps.
Appreciate the feedback LKN, but that didn't solve my issue. I installed the new latch/actuator and have the same symptom. I'm inclined to agree with an earlier comment that my JBE may be the culprit and my car thinks it's an R56 with only one latch and one wiper. I just got the car as a project, so I have no idea as to its history. Seeing as how the shop that replaced the JBE used the one that was in the car to program the new one, the problem could lie in the programming of the old unit and simply carried over to the new one. But then, I don't even know if that's possible - anyone have any better ideas?
It's just frustrating that so many functions on these cars are so complex and beyond the capability of the average owner/enthusiast. Guess it's back to the shop if I can't get it figured out.
I just bought the clubman and was having these issues, pulled the plastic trim and found out I have a R56 JBE fitted!
Now wondering whether I need an R55 one or whether this can be modified.
thank you

The car is new to me and has BMW dealership services throughout in the Carfax. So I have a good feeling, but this issue got me a little weary. Now I hope all it takes is a reprogramming at my independent. I will report back.
I can confirm, after trying about everything, latches, handles, switches.
It is the ECU. I reprogrammed mine, and now it all works.
So in my case the driver side barn door didn't work and the passenger side wiper didn't work. Someone mentioned this is a symptom of the car thinking it is a R56. Bingo.
