Passenger side barn door will not open!

A couple of days ago the passenger side barn door on my 2011 Clubman got stuck in the closed position. When I use the fob, I can hear a couple of little clicks in the latch area, but the door will not open, even if I depress the button on the door handle. I have tried using the toggle lock in the console, and that doesn’t work either. I think from reading all the other threads related to stuck barn doors, the latch must be defective. I called the local dealership in Winston Salem, NC, and was told, “yeah, that is a really expensive repair! You are looking at $749.00 before taxes!” That seems really out of line to me, to say the least! Have any of you had this repair, and how much did it run?

Thank you! I think I had seen every thread but that one! It will be a great help! I am a female with no car repair experience, so I am going to try an independent shop in Winston Salem which has experience with the barn door issue first. If their estimate is too costly, a friend and I will take it on! Thank you so much for the response, and I will let you know how it goes either way!

Welcome, glad to help. If you are on a budget get the parts from us and use that link for the DIY. Find some MINI club people in your area, they might be able to help you fix it.

Thank you so much! A friend and I popped the doors and replaced the latch in about 45 minutes! The most difficult part was crawling into the back and figuring how to get into the door panel, and where to insert the screwdriver! The thumbnails at the link you referred me to were very helpful! The actual replacement took less than 5 minutes! I ordered the part from you at ECS Tuning, and bought a couple of inexpensive tools, and saved 725.00! This took a little patience, but if two sixty-six year old ladies with no auto maintenance or repair experience could fix it, well that tells you something!
