Loose 6spd shifter

'08 Justa 6spd. No problems shifting but when my wife drives, she somehow pulls up on the shift **** and the shaft dislocates and then can rotate. I look down and see the shift boot twisted, the **** numbers upside down and have a kniption . I can't find a pic at realoem or a thread on NAM to fix this.

Twist it back, make sure the bottom **** odes not op off the cable. the top nylon tab might need lifted a hair to spin the round pivot ball back.

Not quite sure I understand. I can get it back in position and it will stay there as long as it is not pulled up and twisted. Is the red O-ring in this pic a retainer or the white plastic part on top of the pivot ball? How to access this? Pry up the chrome shifter boot ring?

Reach it from the top , the nylon piece snaps in and holds the ball in place,.

I presume I pry the boot trim ring up to access the nylon piece. Is the nylon piece replaceable?

One the boot trim ring , you have to work around the base of the boot

One would have to be Superman to pull that ring free. There's no room to get a blade between it and the console. I give up, keep telling her to not pull up on the shifter.

I have a similar set and even tried to get a razor knife in there. Just chipped the chrome off the plastic

ok, well when i did the JCW shift **** upgrade i used the thin one and worked it up from the sides. Then it came out. Try a really flat tiny screw driver to help pry it up, push it down in the seam first a bit and tap it down.

Finally got it! Made initial ingress with a razor knife, then a tiny flat blade screwdriver on either side of it. Did some gentle prying and finally got it unclipped.
It turned out it was the **** that was loose, the only thing keeping it from coming all the off was the boot. Got it put back together - good tap with a soft blow hammer and all is good.
