Speedometer issue

My speedometer seems to be three miles off the correct reading. Is this a common issue?

Usually two miles per hour. A euro law of some sort apparently. If you have non OEM tire size that would change things as well.

This issue has been fodder for posting innumerable times. Also, there is a computer for determining the effect of tire size to speedometer output along with quite a number of other calculators you may find handy.

Minnie is correct. The nannies in the EU mandate lots of silly stuff including the speedo error. Just set your cruise control at 5 MPH over the posted speed and you'll be fine...and always remember:

You can correct the digital speedo with ncsexpert of Carly app, but 3 km/h saves you a speeding tix

Dealer reply

I was told by the dealer that 2 mphs over is normal. Would have been nice to know this upfront rather than think I was going crazy! Also have to tell my passengers so they don't think I'm speeding (at least not more than I am!)

I've been told that of all the laws controlling the building of automobiles, one of them states that it is illegal for the manufacturers to sell a car where the speedometer shows 'less' than the actual speed being traveled but they are allowed a variance of 10% in showing the speed 'faster' than actually being traveled. If that's true it's not hard to figure out which way they would build their speedometers.
