R55 Changing Sport Suspension
Changing Sport Suspension
Hi Folks. I am about to be another BMW convert....Seriously considering a low mileage 08 Clubman S. Only catch is that it has the Sport Package. Most of the options of that package are very desirable but the ride quality over less than perfect roads is almost jarring (not as bad as my 83 911) and it seems to bother my wife. I know that I can switch from run-flats to normal tires, I can change from 205-45 to maybe 195-55, but can I return the stiffer suspension back to more of a "touring" ride? Springs? Shocks? Both? Cost?
Thanks for the help
Thanks for the help
I had the same setup in my 09 Clubman S. Just switching to non-runflat in 215-45R17 made a world of difference in the comfort level. I would try that before going the more expensive route of suspension swap
Yes, I'd go with the tire route first and then maybe look into alternative suspension options. Changing out the run flats will make a world of a difference in ride feel.

Switch off those runflats, drive it and see how it feels to you. Then mod.

I have an 08 Clubman S with the standard suspension, original shocks and 215/45-17 tires and the ride is still great. I haven't had a reason to upgrade the shocks yet, but FSD's will be on the list some day.

Before you buy that '08 you should pull a service history. Lots of problems in 2007-10 models. If you can find a 2011+, you'll likely save yourself some headaches.
