2009 clubman oil

My clubman has 68000 on it I bought it in feb 2013. I use synthic oil in it and change it every 5000 miles. I brought it in for an oil change my tech said it was a quart and a half down. No blue smoke or leaks. Any help on this issue

Is this a Turbo/S Model?

Half a quart in 5,000 miles is nothing to worry about at all.

Some users here are at 1 quart / 1,000 miles.

Are you sure it was full after your last oil change? It sounds like you never check the oil yourself, which isn't a great strategy.

Check it once a week or so and keep it topped off with the MINI specific oil (or compatible brand, not all synthetics are the same).

+1 Start checking your oil. Not doing so can get extremely expensive.

I purchased a used 2008 Clubman S with 55K miles on the odometer, got a good price and I really like everything about it. I was surprised to see that it is using oil at a rate of about a quart every 5K miles. I asked the Mini service manager about this and got a very vague answer. Does anyone know why they use oil and what is the normal rate of consumption. I pity the person who buys one and doesn't check their oil between changes, you could wreck the engine. Shouldn't the oil consumption be mentioned in the owner's manual? I have owned BMW 325's and none of them needed oil added between changes even after 185K miles. Any info would be appreciated.

I bet none of the cars you have owned had a compression ratio above 10.5:1 and were turbo charged....

I had a dodge intrepid with 185000 on it and not a drop of oil would burn off.
