Coolant leak

hello,
just bought a used 2009 mini clubman last sept28 2013
now i see some small amount of fluids every time i use it
i did check the fluid it feels like its leaking some coolant,
i did check mg reservoir its almost in the minimum level already
i see there's this canister below the reservoir & i am thinking that the coolant is coming from there, or its just catching the drop from the reservoir

need some advice please what to do
and any specific coolant i can buy from pepboys or autozone?
i dont want to go to the dealer yet, if i can do a quick & easy fix
that will be my last option, since i dont have any extended warraty

Thanks !!!

You should buy mini approved coolant from your local mini delaer

p.s. It prolly needs a waterpump there are known to go and there is an updated one

happy motoring

remember to check your oil

Could be the thermostat housing. This is a common problem on the minis. Happened with mine. I wish someone would come out with a metal one instead of this cheap plastic.

Coolant leak

Definitely check out the thermostat housing..My 2009 Clubman's temperature gauge suddenly went red on the middle of a busy NYC bridge and then stalled a bit later. Turns out 100% of the coolant leaked out around the temperature housing and now my engine is wrecked......PS Mini-USA as of this writing is refusing to help and told me that this sort of catastrophic engine damage can be expected form time to time when a car gets to 70K miles.....

If it's on the drivers side of the car it's likely leaking from the thermostat housing. It's a fairly well known problem.
