I have MINI crossbars, Rocky Mounts trays and Thule Wheel carriers. My son has Thule cross bars and I believe Rocky Mounts trays. There should be pictures in my gallery, or album or somewhere in the pictures. Also in the Post Pictures of your R56 Here thread.

racks & Thule

We installed the MINI racks, and the Thule attached directly to them. Great combination, well used.

MINI crossbars plastidipped black (need to use real paint, it's peeling up already) and Thule bike racks (modified to mount in the crossbar channel).

^I find them hard to take on and off. I dont like the way they designed the clamp/foot. I always have a hard time tightening down the nut to spread the clamps. Otherwise, they work fine.

My friend's Clubman has the Thule set up on it. I believe it is the 400XT with the Clubman foot kit/pack. Load bars are 50 inch. I think the fairing could be adjusted, to somewhere less steep. I say this 'cause I have the same roof rack on my Justa.

He's in the process of getting a cargo box installed. On mine I'm able to carry two bikes with no problems.

Removal is pretty easy, just remove the locks and twist. On mine it comes off in one piece as the bike attachments stay on the load bars.

I know people have said that these Thule/Yakima mounts have ruined the gutters, but I've had mine for over a year and had no problems.

Factory cross bars on roof rails and Thule Circuit fork mounts. I'm not thrilled with the Thule rack. They seem to clunk a lot on the front fork unless I have them adjusted to exactly the right tension. This takes a lot of fiddling.

I should have my rack in a few days. Got the mini rack (i dont have the factory rails, so i think is the extended rack?), and ordered a rockymount eurobike tray (forget what its called). I'll let you know how i like it once i get it installed. Plan on getting a rockymount 4 board snowboard rack for the winter once they start shipping them.

I'm looking for roof racks to go on my stock rails on my 2010 clubman....
Suggestions besides OE? That won't break the bank too?

I think the OEM rack and the RockyMounts Euro Pitch Fork look good. to great pics above.

Nice you can get colors in the RockyMounts Euro Pitch Fork to offset the color of your MINI. OEM Ones are the same colors are the base bars. We Carry all the Genuine MINI Roof Racks and RockyMounts Euro Pitch Forks.

I notice according to the pic in your "garage" that you have the factory roof rails. DYNOMITE! I am someone who uses racks heavily on my Subaru Outback. wife made me promise NOT to put racks on the MINI . The car takes way too much abuse when using it heavily for whitewater kayaking and mountain biking not to mention trips to lowes for plywood etc. You lean against the side which causes dents, scratches and the like. And if your "friends" help you load and unload, well... there's just no accounting for all the marks.

However, you are taking that plunge so... If you are just carrying a bike or skis or snowboard I am sure the factory stuff is fine. However, if you are really using the rack hard, I would avoide it.

You would likely be happy with Thule OR Yakima. I went with Yakima back in the day cause I liked the round bars and the old Thule bars were smaller in diameter and bowed under heavy loads. Again, I used them heavily. But thats old news. Both companies offer different bars today. you can get nice slick aero cross bars these days or stay with the traditional. Both companies will make suitable accessories. You can get locks for both the crossbar mounts and the accessories.

Things to think about depending on just what you want to carry...

I went with the longest cross bar that fits within the space between the outside edge of the mirrors. I figure if I stay within that width, they wont be "too" in the way (though the MINI sits lower which will bring them into play more often- think of banging your head on the end of the bar) and yet give me the most carrying capacity. I was able to routinely fit 5 kayaks on edge across that set up on an outback- important to me- may not matter to you.

The Yakima set up has been bomber and I have used it for 20 years on three different cars and will do the same if/ when the MINI gets pushed into that service- well after it gets its first blemishes . It is so bomber that it feels like you could lift the car with them. I am sure you can not but that's how solid it is.

They are indeed hard to take off and put on, and they're quite narrow (no overhang). They work though?!

I bought my clubbie with the factory crossbars installed. For a while i didn't have any rack attachments so i used it for other purposes like trips to Home Depot and bringing the Christmas tree home I finally picked up a Touring bike attachment and test fitted my wife's beach cruiser as i haven't bought a bike yet

You have the factory roof rails though. The cross bars for the factory roof rails attach directly to the rails. However, i know someone here on NAM also has the factory roof rails and didn't like how high the cross bars sat, so he went ahead and ordered the ones i have and they still fit over the existing rails. You could do that too.

I was trying to look for that thread, but can't seem to find it :( Sorry.

As for the part number, i think it's 82712149225

Here's the link to MINI's website where you can find it
http://www.shopminiusa.com/PRODUCT/2...UPPORT-SYSTEM#

Also keep your eyes open in the marketplace. I see FS ads for the racks all the time so you can get it on the cheap.
