Okay, one more--what if I add a rack to the base system.
Will I be able to go through a car wash?
I dont see why not, especially if its touchless

Tata Steva,

Did that "Audi" basket really come in at over $750?

I have the factory roof rails, I bought the MINI cross bars because, what good are rails without the cross bars? I think that cars with roof rails installed at the factory should come with the cross bars, but the dealer didn't see it that way.

I have a pickup truck, so I never put anything on the MINI's roof anyway.

My wife, kids and I are big into mountain biking and cycling so we needed as much rack space on top of the Clubbie as we could get. So I installed a new track based Yakima/Thule rack a few days ago. Used Yakima 54" tracks with plus nuts, 53" Thule rapid aero bars, Thule 460r towers, Thule fit kit 3101, and a Thule fairing. This setup works well, very strong. The trakcs are bolted to the roof with seven plus nuts per side. I would not hesitate to put multiple kayaks or other heavy/large loads on this setup. Install was suprisingly easy also. The only custom work I had to do besides drilling the roof holes was to lengthen the mount channel on the bottom of the load bars by 4" on each side to accomodate the tower spread.

I did my rear brakes tonight, and tomorrow will be mounting up a bunch of Yakima Raptor bike racks to the bars. Thankfully, the long bars will fit four wide with room to spare.

Sounds pretty heavy duty. Got pics of this set up?

It is pretty strong. It was the strongest rack mounting method that I could come up with.

I'd like to do a safari basket but I can't find very many pics of people that have done it. I'd hate to spend the money and regret it. Anybody have a link to some?

The 2010 Clubman Rally Edition, the black one with silver stripes and the Green mirrors, came from the factory with the MINI roof bars and basket. Looks terrific. I ALMOST bought one before finding my JCW. Search Google Images for MINI Rally edition and you should get a lot of good pictures.

I just bought a Clubman with factory roof racks. Unfortunately it did not come with the keys for the racks so I can't take them off. Does anybody know how I could get my hands on a key? There are numbers on the locks which I think identify the key code.

You would have to go to a MINI dealership , there are numbers on the lock face ( 3 digit ) and on the keys (3 digit ) engraved that will match. I think they can look it up, its a coded part to the rack so we don't carry them individually. Check for the keys first in the glove box or they might be in the trunk in the storage area, of maybe in the center console / armrest ( inside the lid ) if you have the armrest.

Thanks and good luck.

Thanks for the suggestions. However, there is not a dealer within an hour of me. I checked every nook in the car that I know of. Both glove boxes, armrest, cup holders, and trunk storage area. I thought I hit the lottery when I found the box in the trunk storage area that have the manual and torque wrench with the plastic pieces that go in the slots when the rack removed, but the keys were not there. The number is 012. Anyone have that number and a spare key or a key they can send me so I can make a duplicate then return the key? I'll pay postage and/or buy the spare key. I would call a locksmith but I fear it will be more expensive then I am willing to pay.

You could buy the keys from your nearest MINI dealer, call and tell them the three digit lock code on your rack, have them send you the matching keys in the mail.

Dealer should have provided at least one key for you. When i bought my Clubbie, i asked about the key and they said they couldn't find it and would grab the 3-digit code on the rack and order a key for me. 2 weeks later the key was in the mail.

I bought the car private sale and I am the third owner. Previous owner said he never had a key. I will call the dealer today. Thanks everyone.

How is the noise level with the sunroof open? Enough that you find you want to take off the bars when not using them?

The noise doesn't bother me. I rarely have the sunroof open though. I usually just have it propped up in the vent position. Most of my driving consists of hwy/frwy driving (65+). Also keep in mind that i bought the car with the rack on, so i've never experienced it without the rack.

Never once did i feel like i needed to take them off. I usually have my bike rack holder on there too. No noticeable difference in noise or gas mileage for me.
