Radar Detector Mounting

Anyone have a Radar Detector in their Clubman?
I'm thinking of going with a cordless model and mounting on top of rear view mirror.
I attached a pic of my mirror as there are a few varieties out there.
If anyone has advice or a similar setup attach a pic.

Cordless detectors are not as effective as corded ones. You can tap power from the area pictured in your photo. I don't know the specifics, but there's a thread on it here if you search. It's how I hard wired my Valentine 1, and it works perfectly. Then I just used suction cups and mounted to the driver's side just above the miror. I'll snap a pic and post it if you're interested.

Snap a pic if you could. I'd like to see how it sits.

I have been very pleased with my cordless escort - I use a non-skid sticky pad, the kind that's made for a smart phone and put it on the dash. Allows me to grab the detector and conceal it whenever I feel it might be exposed to theft.

Same deal here. V1, hardwire power adapter tapping the power to the light cluster. Turns on with the car. Suction cupped to the windshield to give it a good view.

(No point handicapping it by sticking it up inside the plastic, behind the metal roofline!)

And like he said, cordless detectors will not be as effective. To maintain their battery life, they cycle on and off. This slows their response time. If you are serious about maximizing your chances vs the police, do yourself a favor and spend the dough on a Valentine 1.

here you go. Even though the detector looks like it sits low on the windshield, it is not blocking my view when I am driving (im 5'10"). The reason why the radar detector is not closer to the mirror is because there are black dots on the windshield glass and the suction cups wont work. I checked the clearence right above the left side of the mirror and it is a tight fit. It looks good there and there is good forward exposure for the detector, but I do not know how you would attach the radar detector.

ya, i guess good point... if your mirror is like my mirror (R53), there is some room between the large plastic piece and the mirror itself... but that piece does not nec look like its long enough to fit over the large plastic bit.

you might have to go with just the windshield suction cup thing. i didnt like that however, because then i couldnt put up my sun shades!

so i mounted mine to the top of my gauge cluster on my dash...

That's a sweet gauge set up! What are they?
Is it ok to obstruct that air vent?

Oil temp and oil pressure.

If you look close, you'll notice an air vent in the middle pod! I chopped up an OEM vent and glued it in place. So, instead of pointlessly shooting air into the windshield, it blows more or less in my face!

Snapped a couple pics of my setup for OP:

It's out of my way, but still close enough I can reach up and hit the mute button. The display remains visible to me even when I fold down the sun visor.

That is how my mini is set up. I didn't even splice any wires.
On the R53 within the upper light console are hole locations where the wires are soldered in. I just used and extra cord and stuck the wires in the correct holes. That was a year ago, and after rocks, bumps, and pot holes it has never failed.

I guess you are lucky that you dont have any black dots behind the mirror so you can mount closer to the center line like you have.
