An easy fix for bluetooth microphone

All agree, the Bluetooth microphone in the Mini is lousy. Everyone that I call complains about the audio, describing it as if I am talking underwater. There are two fixes recommended here. The first is to move the microphone from the right to left side of the beige face plate that lies rear of the mirror. The second, by GregoryK, is to move the microphone so that it underlies the grill in the rear part of the face plate. I just finished doing this fix, and the audio is now great. My wife told me that it sounds like a regular cell phone call now. No more muffled submarine sounds. You will have to cut away some of the thin black plastic in the plastic chassis that underies the face plate. It is easy to do with a pocket knife. You might be able to avoid removing the plastic chassis (held by two screws) by detaching the microphone from at the plug and then snaking the cable and plug to the rear opening in the black chassis. The microphone fits snugly in the rear opening of the black chassis once the extraneous plastic has been trimmed away. One might wonder why BMW did not figure out this option when they designed the car. I pity the fact that I suffered with poor audio for so long.

I moved my buddies MIC to the center, trimmed the center divider and wrapped it in foam. His daughter said it sounds like a normal phone call!!!

My car has the motion detectors so all I could do is move it to the right and add foam to cut done the sensitively. Mine is 20% better

If you lock the car via the remote, press the lock button twice, fairly quickly. You'll see the light on top of the tach blink quickly. That turns off the motion sensor.

I found that by reading the thick *** manual looking for curb mirrors, which the car doesn't have.
