Need help with tire selection ! Please

Going to purchase new tires today, and I have a few questions.???

Currently I am running a 205/40 and wanted to fill some gap and go with a 215/40 to have more tire ......on my 17x7 inch rims. Is this a smart choice ?

Wanted to hear from people who have made the switch to 215's and if they are happy, also wanted to know if it handles better due to more rubber on the ground ? Does it effect the car much going to 215's ? Just want to hear the positive and negatives. Thanks people ! Let me know asap want to order up

I'm probably view 35. I was interested in the answer as I'm new and looking to replace wheels and tires in the spring. Someone has to have an opinion.

I replaced my stock 16's with 215/45 17 hankook evo's on Alta feather wheels. The ride is much smoother and road noise is improved. It turns like its on rails . The only drawback with these tires is gas milage took a 1 to 1.5 mpg hit.

Seeing as how stock tire size is 205/45 - going to a 215/40 would be a better choice than your 205/40. The sidewall will be slightly taller giving you less error on your speedometer, as well as a slightly smoother ride. It's only 10mm wider, so honestly, you probably won't notice much, if any, performance difference. Any performance increase would likely be due to the stickyness of the tire. If you want to stick with the 40 aspect ratio, then I would definitely go with 215's.

I got rid of my run flat 205/45/17s with 200 miles on them for Michelin 215-45-17s Pilot a/s. LOVE THEM . The ride is smoother, grippier and the profile is sporty and gritty. Very happy with them. Not the cheapest choice but Michelin never is.

I switched out my 17" web spokes and RFs for 16" wheels with Michelin AS...tremendous increase in "softness" &, IMO, a much better ride!

I moved from the crappy run flats to 215 45R17 Michelin Pilot Super Sport, the replacement for the PS2 and I absolutely love them. They grip like mad, ride smoother and aren't nearly as noisy. The fact that they come with a 30,000 mile tread warranty is what sold me on them over any other max performance summer tire.

Yes I know that they won't grip as well as the dunlop star specs, but I don't track my car, so I didn't need that last bit of grip that I will never use.

Go for 215's you won't regret it

So do you have 215/45/17's?
If so do you have any rubbing issues?

Hankooks

I also have the hankook evo/konig feather package and am very pleased.i have the 215/45/17 tires with no rub. I gotta say that i didnt notice a change in mpg but as they say ymmv :-).

Did a lot of research and between club member feedback, road and track review and discount tire price it was a no brainer.

Oh and i have a little over 15k on them and hear 0 roar.

Good luck!

I run 215/40 on my street rims. I really like the Hankooks ( had on my previous mini ) and i also noticed that Direzza star specs were on sale at tire rack for CHEAP. I run the Direzzas now and love them... On a side note the way to make tires last as long as possible is a good alignment.

Just went with 215/40/r17 ....no rubbing issues at all and the ride is way more smooth ! Great tires as well highly suggest the falken 502's, all weather tire with a nice tread pattern !

had 205/45's went to 215/40's dunlop, the overall height of the tire is approx. 1" less and of course the tire is a bit wider. I then lowered the car and now have a rubbing issue in the rear when I hit a bump. Unfortunately now I may have to go for coilovers

I am running the stock ride height and I've had zero rubbing issues so far with my 215/45 R17s.
