New Member- Opinion sought

Hello ALL,

I am new member and was will be soon on board with a 2011 Mini Copper S. Having a hard time with a color decision. I am looking at 2 options

1)- Cooper S, Hampton edition, MoonRoof, Cold Weather, Upgraded Sound, Bluetooth/Ipod acc. NO Auto Climate

2) WHite Silver with White Roof (pretty Rare I think), Premium, Cold Weather, and White Silver Edition. The interior is Polar Beige with the Polar Beige color line and Striped Aluminum.

They both seem really nice, the hampton has more of a sporty look with the Red accents and darkened gauges, where as the WS seems to have a more classy modern look on the inside with the Polar Beige and striped aluminum.

I am looking for opinions if I would be better to get a limited edition or a rare white silver white roof. ONly thing I feel missing from the Hampton is the Auto climate.

Folks who have more experience with Mini colors, hope you can offer me some advice. Price difference is not really an issue.

Does a limited edition hold better value? or it is so specific that you need a targeted buyer for it?

Also on another topic, is there an option to buy extended warranty when you pick the car, or something you can buy before your factory warranty end?

Thanks

RE

Well, you're ultimately going to have to make the choice that suits you best. My personal tastes would probably lean toward the Hampton Edition, but I think that's mainly because the White Silver/White combination doesn't strike me (mental picture only at this point) as too appealing. Sometimes something (like a color combination) is rare for a reason: it had limited appeal. But if that's what you like, buy it!

Mine has the automatic climate control system. It's OK; but personally, I don't think I'd miss it if mine had come with the standard HVAC system (with which a recent loaner I had was equipped).

I think limited editions have more potential to retain their value, but not on the market at large; perhaps only to another MINI enthusiast.

I believe you can purchase an extended warranty (and/or service agreement) at almost any time, up to a year after the original warranty expires. I would consult with your adviser to be certain of that, though.

Good luck with your purchase!

I think I would go with the Alta Access Port in favor of the JCW tuning kit. You'll get just as much, if not more, hp and torque improvements. And the Alta AP is *only* $895, less than 1/2 the cost of the JCW kit...

I agree regarding the AcessPort, but the JCW Kit is fully covered under the warranty! Something to think about.

Yep that was my concern, i dont want to void the warranty.

ON another, i guess i got sucked into the Tire and Rim warranty at the pickup. I figured that since the Hampton has special rims, it might be a good idea to go for it, incase they do get damaged. Years ago, I had an Audi TT and living in NY /NJ seemed like I went through at least 2 bulged tires from pothole and bent rims. Do you think think it was ok to go for it. i still have the option of canceling it.

If the roads suck in your area that insurance will pay for itself the first time you use it.

The real question is... Are you gonna keep the run-flat tires? I don't think that wheel/tire warranty will cover aftermarket tires.

After about a month on the run-flats I decided they had to go! I hated them! I got a set of Michelin Pilot Sport A/S+ and never looked back. Much, much improved in every way. I sold my run-flats for $300 so my total cost for the deal was about $150.

So, Are you gonna keep the run-flat tires? That's the real question.

Good Luck

I just picked up the car yesterday to I have no opinion on them as yet. But I will probably not be replacing them, I have never really replaced tires without any specific reason, unless they went bad. So i will probably keep them on. Also I think from what I understand the insurance will cover Mini approved tires or the OEM tires. Not sure on the Rims, I like to keep the OEM Hampton Rims. That is really the only reason, I went for the insurance to If I had to replace the dealer would be able to order me the Hampton RIM.

Ended up canceling the Insurance. They charged me $850 and seemed way to high> I figured I will put that money into the JCW Kit

Hm I dont know how it is. But I got into a huge discussion with the VW GTI crowd about how they can't void warranty for OEM parts because it's against the law. Something about needing to let competition going. I think with Alta, if they can show that it cause the damage they will void the warranty. Alta and other tuner had a thread up here about how hard it is for mini to detect them. It was same with the GTI crowd. Worth looking into before u spend 1.2k. I was going to look into it but I don't have the money right now so no point.
