mud flaps - any photos or opinions?

I am considering adding mud flaps to my new Hampton. Does anyone have photos of them installed on a Clubman, or any experience - good or bad - as to whether they are helpful?

I tried searching the forums but couldn't seem to find any clubman pix but I'm new to trying to find things on these forums so perhaps my search skills aren't what they should be yet.

Thanks!

Not mine...but here you go:

Also, the general consensus is that mudflaps may help with splashed-up mud and snow, but if you're looking to keep the rear of your clubman dust-free, they won't help at all.

I work for a dealer and have seen a lot of mud flaps get put on and honestly I think everyone of them looks terrible. The concept of mud flaps on a mini doesn't make sence to me and really just doesnt fit the design of the car. When your looking at them it's pretty obvious that they are an add on and just takes away from the sleekness of the mini. No photos just my two cents. Who knows some people like them but are you really about to go mudding in your clubman? You may aswell stick on some all terrain tires while your at it.

They work just like the intended purpose as they are.
However mine are coming off when I severely lower the Clubby.

I put them on my Clubman and I think they make the back of the car look lower.

I was just looking to keep as much road junk off my car as possible and thought perhaps it might help to keep little rocks or other debris flying up and hitting side of car behind the wheels.

If anyone has any secrets on keeping the rear clean, I'd love to hear them. Had a MCS before, and the back always felt gritty. Is that also the case with the Clubman?

Yep, because of the hatch back design the aerodynamics always create a swirl behind the car, settling dust on the rear end.

I installed both front and back mudflaps soon after I bought my Clubby. IMO, the add to the look of the car; but, as mentioned in this message string, they are not very functional. I do note that I have no scratches down the sides of my Clubby; cannot attest that the mudflaps help in this way but they may.

Those of you with mudflaps are you buying from the dealership or after market? If you installed them yourself was it difficult or not? Thanks

I got mine on ebay through Morristown Mini's ebay store. $105 delivered. Installed them myself, was pretty easy but you do need to remove the rear wheels. If you search around, there is a pdf for the installation.

From the dealer, easy install. and IMHO they make the car look a little better.

As for the rear not they do not keep it any cleaner.

For the sides they do help with mud and dirt kicked up from the front wheels and help to keep the sides a little cleaner and with less scratches from the flying debris

The mudflaps really don't keep the back of the clubman clean. you should go in expecting that its a cosmetic upgrade to your car and nothing else. Although It doesn't keep the boot clean, it makes the car have a wider stance and makes it look a lot more muscular. It does help keep the side doors stay cleaner for longer but doesn't eliminate road dust. Also make sure the mudflap adhere to the car. I had to go in twice to the dealer to get it reattached because it wasn't completely flush. Here are some pictures of my clubman....

Those that self-installed -- there is drilling involved right?

i had gotten mine installed at the MINI dealer. There were drilling and glue involved. The screws were put inside the wheel wells and the glue was put on to keep the mudflap flush with the car.

We like the look of the mud flaps since it makes the car look a little more aggressive IMHO. Not to mention that we live on a dirt/gravel road leading to a horse farm.

Got a sweet deal on Motegi 17" wheels and just installed them today with Conti DWS 215/45 tires.

My wife loves her "Black Widow" MINI and gets thumbs up everywhere she goes.

Well this seems to be the most definitive thread about these, and one of the ones I stumbled across when searching a few weeks ago. So I'm going to put in my addition... I decided to add the mud flaps as well, install was pretty uneventful & easy, and a good excuse to take of the back tires and inspect the brakes. overall I'm pleased with the look, and if it blocks just a little bit of the junk from hitting the sides or back of the car it's a good thing, IMO. But I realize it's likely mostly just for looks.
