The Ghost in the Machine

This question falls in the "I don't think this is a big issue" bucket. Drove my '09 Clubman S to work, early as usual, parked the car and sat in it for a couple of minutes doing emails. Being early with no outside noise, I noticed knocking or banging, like someone hitting the body. A solid knock, not tinny. Do I have a ghost riding with me or has someone else noticed this phenomenon?

Inquiring minds.......

MINI 'farts' are normal. They all do that.

Thought maybe it was an old racing spirit telling me to go faster

I had a similar situation in my '09 Cooper...took it to the dealer, and they said it had something to do with expansion/contraction in the gas tank. They loosened the straps holding the tank in place, lubed them up, and then re-tightened them. No knocks that I've noticed since. They also mentioned that it wasn't an infrequent complaint...

Mine does it too. I notice it the most after I fill up. No biggy.

Never mind the other explanations, THIS is the correct one.

back when I had a Justa cooper, 2007, there was a lot of "knocking" from the rear, often times while driving (but always when stopped, like at a light).

W/ my 09 clubman I actually have never heard anything UNTIL the other day, randomly, after driving around, home, parked, got out, was unpacking things and I heard the knocks... just like three, then it stopped.

odd!
