3 Questions pertaining to my new '10 Clubman S

Alright so being new to the whole Mini scene - I'm becoming acquainted with my new 2010 Clubman S (in Horizon Blue!) - and had the following questions...

1 - Is there a way to change the **** sensitivity when scrolling through iPod music. It is insanely slow. - Are there advanced options for that or something - didn't see it in the paperwork.

2 - Why doesn't my Mini allow me to have a sound when locking the doors - I went through the whole process to customize it but mine won't let me.

3 - Does my Mini have ANY type of anti-theft on it? I didn't choose the security system - but is there anything at all that comes standard? Does that big red LED ontop of the steering column have anything to do with it?

Thanks I know they may seem retarded - just seeing if anyone else has the same issues.

If this is needed too here: 2010 Clubman S, Cold Weather, Leatherette, Checkerboard, iPod/Bluetooth, Auto Climate control, about 4500 miles.

Thanks!

-Josh

If you don't have the alarm system...2&3 won't work.

No, there are some workarounds by using playlists ect check the NAV and AUDIO Section that is where your answers will come from.

Only way to get this is to have the alarm system.

locking with remote

I don't have the alarm system on my 2010 Clubman and I do have the option of (i) sound, (b) sound and flash of the parking lights or (c) parking lights flash.

I hate it when people have their car beep when they lock it -- especially when I'm walking past it right then in an underground garage (it startles me) or in the middle of the night when they stop near the front of my house and wake me up. There's no need for a beep sound -- I can hear the locks clicking shut -- and the flashing lights don't really bother too many people.

Mine is a Canadian model; it may be different on your car.

As a Canadian car you may have the option of sound but I have never seen a 2010 that will make sound without the alarm.

I second that! In almost every circumstance, you should be able to hear the doors locking without some annoying chirp or beep or honk. I am thankful that the doors locking is the only sound my car makes.

As far as anti-theft, I know some people who assure me that the MINI is a VERY hard car to steal. Basically, to steal a MINI, you'd need to tow it away or have the key.

I have a 2010, the OPTION for sound is there, but it will not make the sound unless you have the alarm.

I lock my car while standing next to it (most often using the button on the handle with my convenience access or whatever its called). I want to know it's locked, and don't walk away from my car and then decide, 'hey, maybe I should lock my car'.

Unlocking the car is different, and sometimes I wouldn't mind a sound to locate my tiny little car in the sea of kid-haulers and urban assault vehicles in the parking lots.

Since I hate the sound, I've never tried it. I'll try to remember to test it tomorrow.

Interesting that they'd give you the option if it wasn't going to work.

There is a "passive" anti-theft engine device.

Yeah, even the manual along with the OBC choices says you can choose to make a sound etc... but mine also still doesn't without the alarm.

My friend once said, "I like to make the beeping sound when my car locks so people think I have an alarm." My response to my pal was, "The only thing people think you have when you make that annoying sound is idiocy. Anyone who wants to steal your car knows that most cars honk when locked via the remote." Clearly I also hate it when people use that honk.

I don't have the Ipod adapter on my Clubman so I can't test this, but I know that if you press the "m" button when playing an audio CD or an MP3 disk the **** will scroll 10 songs per click instead of one.

In reference to number 3, there are standard features that help keep your MINI safe. There is a transmitter in the key that has to be in the car or the car will not start. If someone duplicates your key and tries to start your MINI, or tries to hot wire your car it will not start without that transmitter, that is specific to your MINI.

That is not really and anti-theft protection system.

Yes it will deter a thief that breaks the window or joy riders but will not deter anyone who wants to really steal the car.

And the transmitter systems are a lot easier to get around that most people think. Of course not as easy as a key but still easy.

And as for the "Passive" security device someone else mentioned that is very easily bypassed if you know what you are doing.

And even with the best Anti-Theft systems if the thief wants your car they are going to take it period.

umm it has to do with the part of the original post that I quoted. He mentioned that it was extremely slow to scroll, not sure if the ten click scroll works on the Ipod adapter or not, but if it did then scrolling ten songs per click would be quicker than one song per click.

All that may be true BUT as far as my insurance company is concerned it counts towards a discount on my insurance rates. That may be the ONLY thing ANY car alarm is good for these days possibly.

In NYC (and most cities IMHO) car alarms are a waste and an annoyance. I walk past more than a dozen honking cars every day and nobody even looks twice other than to possibly key the "annoying" car unfortunately. I had a car alarm on my old Mustang and the only thing the neighbors ever did when the alarm went off was shout out the window to shut it off and that was in a small town and not even in NYC, lol.

Schatzy62 is correct: there is no option to get sound when you lock the car on the 2010 Clubman. (Which, as I said earlier, is fine with me. I wish all cars just flashed the lights or some other no auditory signal to indicate locked/unlocked doors.)

Thanks everyone. I really appreciate all of the responses. Good to know that there are some theft deterrent features on my car still. I'll definitely also try the 10 song click by pushing the M button when I get a chance - I'll report back.

I guess while I'm here and see you've all for the most part modded out your Minis... what is the coolest/most useful mod you all have done? I'm not so much into body kits, spoilers, intakes, any of the 'hooking up' stuff - more like interesting useful things. Any suggestions?
