what sounds should my car make when I get in?

The car is brand new to me and I dont have the manual with me so I appologize, but what sound is my car supposed to make when I start it up? I have keyless entry/nav, not that I think that should make any difference and I notice it makes what sounds like a phone dialing sound, like 4 tones which I think it repeats once, but I don't think it does it every time. I've only driven it 4 times so far. I'm not sure if this is a warning sound or what. I really need to dig into the 8 or so owners manuals that came with the car, but does anyone know if this is a normal or warning sound? Also is there PDF copies of the owners manual somewhere I could access from my work computer?

Thanks

You can get the manual on the Owners Lounge. If you haven't signed up, you can sign up with your production number or VIN if you have them.

First off what kind of car is it,Year and Model. Put this info in your signature so that we all know what your car is and add the options. See mine below. This helps us all out when you ask questions.

As for what sounds it should make, there really should be very little sound when you first open the door. There is a slight wearing sound kind of like a cd drive starting up but very faint that most people hear if they listen for it. but other than that I know of nothing that should be making a beeping sound.

Now if it was a Camden Version then there is a strange item (can't think of what they call it right now) that makes statements to you when certain things happen in the car like going a round a corner to fast. But your car should not have that.

Can you try to pin down where the noise is coming from?

Does it happen every time you open the door or does it only happen after the car has been shut down for more that a certain period of time?

I or others may have more questions for you after you answer these.

I think it might be the "fasten seat belt" reminder?

Yup. I'm thinking the same thing. Get in, start the car, then reach *way* back and grab the seatbelt.

In the meantime, there's the "reminder" chimes to let me know that I haven't put the belt on yet.

I'm working on trying to remember to put the belts on before starting it, but there's something at work that makes me push the Start/Stop button while me hand is still near the key. (I don't have the Convenience package, and have to inset the keyfob into the slot, so my hand is right there.)

From the description, it sounds like the seatbelt warning to me, too. Tried latching the seatblet before you start the car? You shouldn't hear it then.

If it's 4 rising notes, it's the "you left the door open" alert.

You may also get a chime if the outside temp is below 37 deg. F.

As someone said, the owners manuals in PDF are in the Owners Lounge at MINIusa.com. (In the Your MINI section)
Currently manuals for all models from '02 to '09 are there.
Only the main manuals are available and none of the supplemental manuals with the exception of a Bluetooth manual.

I emailed MINI and asked when the 2010 manuals would be put up and I also asked if they had plans to put any of the supplemental manuals on there. No reply yet.

The PDF's are great as you can search on keyword and find info really quickly. Copy and paste are disabled however...

Good - I've been wondering about that snowflake. It's in the warning window so the few times I've seen it I felt I should be alarmed and come up with some sort of response! Glad to know it's just an announcement
