How long it took you to get your license plates?

I took delivery of my 2010 JCW Clubman on Nov 24th '09 and 8 weeks later still no license plates. I live in California. I guess the inmates in San Quentin State prison were also affected with the state mandatory 2-day per month furlows.

I also noticed being my vehicle is new and no plates. It seemed like other motorist tend to cut me off or dare to race. I'm wondering if it is the sound of the rear exhaust from my JCW or just a fact my car is new. Or this is just how the way Californians drive.

Speed up those inmates ... I waited for my title 1 week , then walked in and had new plates in 15 minutes ... Still have the 30 day temp tags on it waiting for a warm up (darn snow)

In Mass they give you the plates on the spot unless it is a vanity plate and those take about 3-4 weeks.

In fact when a new car is purchased it has real plates on it when you pick it up or they transfer the plate you already have from your old car.

I wounder what all the waiting is for in other states.

Aw, man...I bought mine on Dec. 20th so now I know it's gonna be a looong time before I get the plates. You'd think with the over-crowded prisons they'd have more "workers" to do the painting?

And if you live in L.A. like I do, it's definitely the drivers. Not as bad up North in San Francisco where I grew up, but down here it's the land of the bitter, pissy cell phone blabber/text-er behind the wheel!

Saturn - that is a SWEET looking MINI you've got there.

It is not because of having no plates, it is because of having a MINI!

Heh - I get dares to race, too, and I'm only in an S. It's nice to be able to surprise some people by the speed, though. And if there were ever to be twisty roads in a "race" then there really aren't that many cars out there that could keep up with a good MINI S driver! And the JCW forget about it...that thing is frighteningly fast!

It seems that it does take a very long time to get plates in California - my son bought a new Honda Si a while back and it took so long he was able to go to Iraq, return (6months during the initial invasion), and still had no plates. I even drove his Honda Si from California to Maryland and then back - with no plates - just a piece of paper taped to the window!
California is so screwed up - it is amazing anything gets done in that state!

bigsoup52 - Must be not driving a MINI.

mrmagoo - Wow! 6 months without plates seem way too long. Man! California's budget is really screwed up. I guess I just need to wait.

i don't think there's much to worry about. i bought mine used through my credit union over 5 weeks ago, did all the dmv work there, and still haven't gotten my registration. i'm definitely blaming it on the government furlough days
... but on the bright side, i'm a college student, and that means days off school for me! lol

My friend in the Los Angeles area picked up her 2010 Clubman in early November and received the plates in the mail in late November.

I ordered personalized plates for her and that came in 13 weeks.

By the way, call your dealer to see if they submitted the paperwork to the DMV.
