Help on Warning Lamp

2008 Clubman, yesterday the brake light came on over the steering wheel and stayed on. I know what that means, but now everytime I start the car I get a red mini on a lift over the steering wheel, goes off a few seconds but can't find what this light means-again it's a mini on what appears to be a mechanics lift...

Having jacked with auto's most all of my life, I would venture to say that it's telling you the Computer has stored a fault code, and get thee to the shop.

If your red brake light(the word brake) stays on and you have a red MINI icon on a lift when you startup then it's just reminding you that your brake wear sensors are tripped and you need a brake job. The dealer will reset the lights or you can do it yourself if you plan on doing your own brakes.

Ditto

This same issue happened to me just today. I'm glad I found this thread to confirm my suspicions. I hope to get an appointment for this Friday when I'm off work. Will that be ok? I only work ~5 miles from home and that will be the bulk of my driving for this week.

OK so my Brake light came on and I replaced the rotors and pads at my local mechanic. the light is still on and the mini dealer which is over an hour away wants $65 to reset the light. Is it possible to rest myself? my mechanic has a scan toll but not sure it can do a flash reset. Please help save me time and money.

TIA

Joe

OK, they do not have to do that, But you will need to order a Brake Sensor, because once it's tripped, it's useless. Then there is this.....

Mine was tripped.
I did my own brake job as it was very very easy.
62 dollars in parts.

Resetting will work from the trip computer (little protruding pin ****) on tach.
Hold it down after your work is done and you will get into menu to reset the next brake service.
Worked on my r56 Cooper.

Or, before re-setting it you can do it the Cheap-Man's way. (did mine like this because the tabs were reversed in the sensor They sent me) Just cut the wire at the Caliper, solder then together and shrink wrap it. Then re-set it. You won't have the warning light anymore tho.
