Want Clubman - buy 09 or wait for 10

I have an MCS that I'm trading in, so what would you do? Anyone heard of any changes for 2010? Thanks!

Haven't read this yet myself but you certainly should: http://www.motoringfile.com/2009/06/...oming-in-2010/ Motoringfile's exclusive on the Mid-Life Cycle "refresh" for 2010. See if the changes are important enough for you to wait and get your order in.

Why stop at 2010? I'm sure there will be improvements in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014... I'd hold out for the 2020 model if you really want to see some great new features!

While I'm sure that's true, I'm most concerned about whether waiting a month or 2 (until Oct 09 for MY 10) would be worth it.

Companies always evolve / change their product. In electronics, it's called "Planned obsolescence". Only you can decide if the rumored changes coming will be worth the wait. Meanwhile, your potential trade-in isn't going to appreciate in value

My '09 Clubman S is already on the boat to the US. Can't wait another year although I'd love to have the updated model. On the plus side you can use this info in your price negotiation for a '09.

The article you referenced mentioned a late-2010 date as a "2011" model.

That's a 15-16 month wait. If you just want to wait until the 2010 models are out, that would be a short wait, and up to you.
If you're special ordering a MINI, you may end up with a 2010 model anyway if you don't order in the next few weeks. I'm not sure when MINI changes the model year designations, but it's usually September or October. Your dealer should be able to tell you when that happens. Good luck, whatever you decide!

Yes, I think waiting for the major changes the article references (that will occur in MY 2011) is out of the question. I am wondering whether some of the glitches (with the doors, etc) may be less likely to occur in the 2010 rather than 2009 models. I live 3 hours from the dealer so even non-mechanical issues would be a pain for me to deal with.

Thanks for the opinions so far!

I was in the same boat as you two months ago - I bought an MCS in Oct 2007 and absolutely loved it. I made the mistake of test driving a Clubman this last March and then fell in love with THAT. I did some research on expected 2010 changes and decided that they wouldn't be worth the wait so I ordered in April. My 2009 Clubman S arrived a week ago, and I traded in my '07. The Dealer treated me great and the current financing is an absolute steal. The Clubman is super - I've noticed no glitches or issues. I really like the extra room and the boot barn doors - I recommend going for it now - carpe diem!!

I'm leaning toward getting it now. The more pics I look at, the more difficult waiting seems!

BTW, the same thing happened to me. I was given a loaner Clubman while my 05 MCS was getting serviced and I REALLY liked the extra room, etc. What made you trade in rather than sell yourself? That's another dilemma I'm facing.

I elected to trade, but when I ordered my Clubman I did some prenegotiation to ensure that the used car manager would give me a "floor" price for my car - between that and some haggling with the new car folks, who gave me a discounted MSRP since I was a repeat customer, I came out just about at Edmunds.com for a trade in value. I didn't have to hassle with selling it myself, and when you trade in, you only pay sales tax on the value above the trade in. I knew that if the used car gent tried to lo-ball me at the last minute, I could always just decide to sell myself - but he stuck to what we'd discussed two months prior - so I'm a happy customer!
