Sunshade for windshield?

Hi All,

Well my wife refuses to spend $50-$60 on a sunshade for the windshield for clubbie. I can see her point so has anyone found a sunshade that is adequate from a local store (wally world, target, autozone, pepboys) that will work for the clubbie?

Appreciate the help as we have tried and returned 3 so far as they do not fit properly....considering "trimming one if need be.

Thoughts?

Mike

I bought one last year at Menard's for $4 for my Accord, and although it does not fit the Clubman perfectly, it gets the job done. Plus for $4 I can't really complain.

I have one of those spring shades that folds up into a circle. I think it was like $10 at Pep Boys and it is big enough to cover the entire windshield. It's actually a bit oversized, so the two halves overlap.

The ones from Pep Boys work, but be careful the spring steel wire hoop doesn't leave indentations in the visor. That was my experience and I ended up ponying up the $52.95 to Mini. I didn't like the indents in the sun visors...

In my opinion it is worth the $$$s for perfect fit and that nifty MINI logo. It's your MINI...pamper it!!

The silver reflective roll-up variety specifically for a Miata (purchased from a dealer) costs about $30 and fits the MINI windshield perfectly. We happened to have one from our Miata which we weren't using so it was a no brainer; still think they're over-priced, however that's a slightly cheaper option.

I agree, the MINI sunshade fits the windshield perfectly and looks great. The only problem is that it knocks the rear view mirror askew every time I use it.

True. I push my sunscreen down as I remove it...seems to clear the mirror fine. Of course, that depends how/where ones mirror is set up.

Another consideration in favor of the cheaper option (even though I definitely go for the more expensive)....the MINI sunshade does wear over time. I have one for my '03 Cooper. The reflective laminant and paper tends to tear at the folds. The material used in the cheaper options seems pretty darn near indestructable.

As 3DogDepot mentioned, if you can find a good fit in a less expensive option, that'd be one big hurdle overcome!!

My wife is going to find a suitable sunscreen and cut it to fit. Will see how that goes... .....if it doesn't work out well then we will order one custom fit!

There used to be a windshield sunshade designed like a handheld asian fan. You suction cup the base to the glass and fold it open & closed as needed. It came in a set of two so you just made it fit to your needs by how far you stuck it together on the glass. I thought that was the best shade: no need to pull on & off, just install & flip as needed.

anybody seen these lately?

I got one at Target. It was under $10 and fits pretty well. It folds into a very small circle, and then goes in a small pouch which easily fits under the passenger seat.

Dunno about the pampering thing, but the perfect fit, much heavier construction (and the logo) made it worth it for me. Well, I got the dealer to throw it in on the purchase, but... I liked it well enough that I just bought a custom, heavy duty one like the MINI one for my wife's Prius. So, I spent the money anyway.

Cutting doesn't work very well, because you'll be cutting off the edge trim, leaving the mylar edge free and the foam core exposed. The ones with the woven tape trim hold up a lot better than the ones with the grey, fuzzy trim. DAMHIK.

We found a set of the "two-piece circles" at Wally World for about $5. They actually work pretty well so that is what we are going with for now anyhow. They were the "standard" size.

These guys make a good one, custom fit to the MINI:

http://www.canvasworks.com/

Although, I have to admit the quality of the ones I got last year for our local MINI club wasn't as good as what they used to make 10-15 years ago...

I actually found one here in the marketplace for a very reasonable price.

You may browse through it on a periodic basis.

Mini is not listed on their dropdown menu. How much is their version?

We have those in all five of our cars. They make several different sizes, and we've been able to make them work in everything we've tried them in so far, although they fit better in some cars than others. IME they tend to last several years of regular use before needing replaced.
