R55 H&R SS Crossovers or Megan Crossovers for better ride
H&R SS Crossovers or Megan Crossovers for better ride
We currently have TSW springs on our Clubman, I feel think the front is too high on those springs and the ride is so so. Between the two coilovers which one would people think would give the ride closest to stock with better handling than stock and ability to drop it 1 inch in the front and .75 maybe in the rear. I would like the ability to customize the drop to make it look and ride the best which is why I am thinking of coilovers. Both Megans and H&Rs are around the same price, the Megas have the dampening control on them, the spring rate on those is 8k front and 6k rear. I would assume the H&Rs might be better since I think the spring rate is setup for the Clubman since there is a R55 version.
So my clubman has M7 Coilovers. I can't comment on the others and my car came with them so I didn't have a choice. Actually, I have the stock suspension, but love the coilovers. They may be a little harsher around town, but they feel soooo much better then stock on the freeway. I am comparing this to my test drives of various Clubmans with 17 and 18" wheels. I actually found a JCW with 18's to be a horrible ride. It was an earthquake.
I drove 4 hours up the 5 with my car and it was a dream. I am running 17" wheels and I see you have the same. The best way I can describe the road feel is "heavy". The car sits on the road and doesn't float around. Reminds me of my Audi Wagon. Bumps go by very smoothly. I am riding as high as I can because it will rub if I go lower, but trust me...I am pretty low. When I say heavy though, this does not suggest that the car is nimble or responsive with this setup. It is very much so, but it does what you tell it to do, not what some groove in the road or bump might force it into....hope this helps.
One last thing. My opinion on springs is that they are essentially just for looks. I have never found a car where an aftermarket spring alone with actually improve ride/handling. There is always some negative tradeoff. Just my $.02 here. I am sure others will swear by springs, but I usually avoid them all together...
