holy crap batman, just received a phone call back from my mini service advisor (who is GREAT by the way). this email they sent was a HUGE mistake, and his phone has been ringing off the hook since it went out. It was for the BMW 5 series, NOT for the mini.. BUT he did say that there might be a possible recall on the cat converter, but mini has not released the details yet. He said he will know more in a week...

I got the letter in my email, too. When I called the service dept. they knew nothing of it. They suggested I adjust my passenger to fix the problem. My "passenger" is a lifesize gorilla. He is not heavy enough to activate the airbag system anyway. When I reminded them that I'm the customer with gorillas in my cars, they realized that the problem was supposedly with the car, not my passenger.
I'm glad to learn this is a mistake as the trip is over 100 miles to go down. It would have been a shame to drive that far for a mistake, not that I would mind the drive.
