JCW Just installed NM Engineering air charge tubin and CAI
JCW GarageInterested in John Cooper Works (JCW) parts for your 2nd Generation MINI? This is where JCW upgrades and accessories for the MINI Clubman (R55), Cooper and Cooper S (R56), and Cabrio (R57) MINIs are discussed.
Just installed NM Engineering air charge tubing and CAI
Received my goodies from the great Jerry at NME today. Easy install of 2 things tonight while waiting for the ECU stage 1 flash to come back on Wednesday.
These will be installed on Thursday along with ECS' Exact-Fit red stainless steel brake lines and Motul RBF600 brake fluid.
ECU out and on its way to NME for stage 1 flash.

just got the ecu today (shipped out to them on monday, received back on wednesday). took me 2 mins to reinstall and put the cover back on. wow!!! it's what i can say with the transformation of the performance. the jcw now pulls so strongly. i'm losing traction in 1st and 2nd gear and into 3rd when power shifting. the power band is much wider, and torque comes in sooner. see nme's site under engine-ecu-dyno for the specs (http://www.nm-eng.com/media/attachments/269_r56dyno.pdf). the combination of air charge pipe, discharge pipe, cai, and ecu stage 1 flash all made up for a significant gain in performance.
what you get with nme stage 1 software - remaps boost pressure, ignition timing, air fuel ratio, throttle response and rev limiter for manual tranny.
even better is the swooshes from the factory bov ;-) the swooshes are as the result of the open airbox and higher boost. also, the upgraded piping eliminated the stock pipe's muffler (for sound deadening purposes) and voila. it's not an annoying and loud swoosh like aftermarket bov's but definitely noticeable inside/outside the car and very respectable. combined with the suction sounds from the cai (not crazy loud at all), my jcw is now so much fun. the exhaust (removed resonator and 2ndary cat before) now backfires even more and pops louder. i will check tonight to see if i can get some sparks
i've taken it out for a 30 mins test drive. from the time i fired it back up with the flashed ecu until i got home - no CEL and no MIL whatsoever. the car is driving just fine thus far, and all the mods just simply work!
kudos to the folks at nme for their high quality products, excellent fitment, clear and easy instructions...but most of all for their great customer service. jerry at nme has been very helpful in answering all my silly questions quickly and in guiding my decisions...great job!
here's a finished engine project that took me 2 nights (while waiting for ecu to come back) and a quick clip of the bov's swooshes...enjoy!
I'm so glad you just posted this! I was in my garage last night putting the intake and charge pipe too!
Only I gave up on the charge pipe (cold-side) because I couldn't get the old one off. I could not get the lower end to release. It was so tight in there I just couldn't get the right leverage and angle to pull it off. Or is there a trick to it?
At least I got the intake on and now the charge pipe is easy to access!

How did you get yours off?
i used a long flat blade screwdriver to pry off the oem pipe. takes a lot of work but how i did it.
Well done and nice list, post up a pic of the ECS brake lines when installed.
Here are the pix. I started a new brake upgrade thread: https://www.northamericanmotoring.com/forums/jcw-garage/291934-slotted-rotors-hps-pads-exact-fit-ss-lines-and-motul-done.html#post4113124
ever forget the JCW is down there when you lower the Lamborghini?
haha 2 sports car extremes. extreme cheap. extreme expensive. thanks for telling us where NM is. up the freeway from me in Malibu. drive over there and see if they install.

LOL never! The lift has a master power switch so even if I forget and just push the lever to lower it - just won't happen ;-)
I'm loving all my mods so far from NM Engineering, especially the stage 1 ECU map...lots of torque down low for big smiles and that swoosh coming to life is a lot of fun. Over 500 miles with the NME mods and NO CEL or MIL of any kind. It just all works ;-)

haha You're an interesting dude. First - nice engine shots of your turbo upgrade and documenting your engine work. Inspiring me to go for it.
But curious: why are you pissing around putting in 100 dollar upgrades to a cheap sports car like the JCW when you got a monster 6 figure racing machine hanging over it's roof???
Don't get me wrong - I love my JCW. But it was only 36 grand new. I would take a 911 turbo if I had the choice.

I love cars and doing easy mods to get the biggest smiles per $. The JCW is simple to work with. Doesn't matter the price of the car to me. I love my JCW, since it's my daily driver I can zip around in. If I break something in my mods, it's cheap to replace. My JCW loaded with dealer installed CF wing and gauges was $37K but bought brand new at end of model year for only $33K.
I already installed the QuickSilver Titan titanium exhaust on the Lambo so the V10 can scream bloody murder as it should be. There's not much else to do on an otherwise perfect car for me already.
I've tallied all my JCW mods so far including NME wheels and tires...$6887 incl. all taxes, shipping, install/services I don't do myself (realignment, tire mounting, brakes). That's a little over just the Lambo's exhaust incl. installation alone

Its great you love the JCW so much and have so much fun, I love my JCW and have driven many other cars and I really like mine.
Check out my latest 3 posts/mods. The car is even more fun now ;-) I can't wait for delivery of the Orranje GP wing that's due to arrive mid-September. That will complete my JCW project for a while. I may consider doing the Sprint Booster throttle mod and bigger intercooler (with NME stage 2 flash) later...

Very inspiring MiniMofo. You sound like a true car guy. Yeah I'd probably try out a lot sports cars and come back to the JCW.
Damn I should have gone with a year end newer model. hahaha Didn't know much about them at the time a year ago. I got a sweet '11 JCW with really low miles and a 100K warranty. Also nice install photos. Show us more when you get a chance.
Well any car can be improved, customized, personalized, etc....all personal taste as long as it's tasteful and functional. I like doing it as much myself as possible to learn and get the gratification that I've achieved something more so than just saving $ given to someone to do it for you.
