Broke my mirror...

...putting on my cool checkere3d flag caps. I tried the 'pop the mirror glass out' method because everyone said it was so easy... they said you have to pull harder than you think and dont' be scared... based on that, I got four fingers under the bottom edge, and pulled gently and... CRAAAACK!!! :-(((

Then I used the plastic knife method, holding down the bottom two clips, freed the bottom, and pulled gently against the top clips, and, ta da! The cop popped off.

Anywho, the question is, do I buy a new mirror from the dealer or who, or do I get a set of these 'Multivex' thingies ( http://new.minimania.com/web/Item/G2.../InvDetail.cfm) for less $$ and just cover up my sin?

You could always go to a local glass shop and see what they have to offer. Estimates are free and you are under no obligation.

Dealer about $75.00... anyway, the dealer also told me that I should have pulled from the TOP edge of the mirror to pop it out... when I go to replace it, will try that and post my results.

Call Morristown MINI in NJ for the glass... best prices of any dealership in the country.

I know because I get a lot of parts from them... including a sideview mirror that I broke just like you did.

The error I made: I subconsciously (without thinking, for you hillbillies ) used my thumb as leverage in the center of the mirror as I was pulling up on the bottom edge with my index and middle fingers. Do not do that !! Stick your thumb ANYwhere else.

Hmph... I didn't pay that much when I got mine from Morristown. And it was only about six months ago. I think I paid more like $58.

Edit: Just realized this is the Clubbie forum. Explains THAT. Still surprised they're priced where other dealership and aftermarket vendors are. They've always been cheaper on everything I bought from dealers.
