Which fob recognized? (Convenience Pkg)
As the Conv. Pkg. does not require plugging in a fob for vehicle operation, if both my wife and I are both in the car with our respective "personality programmed" fobs, is there any rhyme or reason to which fob the Mini will recognize for the programmed settings? Whoever unlocked the doors first? Whichever is closest to the receiver (where is that)? Some from fob A, some from fob B? Random? Do I have to plug mine in for fob priority?
I have to laugh. I wanted answers to the same questions yesterday. So I did some extensive testing. What I found can be summed up like this. If you are using the button on the door handle to unlock the car, the key fob that is on the drivers side of the car at the time that the button is pushed is the fob that determines the car's set-up. The sensor that detects the presence of the fob seems to be directional. Even if there is another fob next to the car, the one on the drivers side wins for me everytime. I did not experiment what would happen if both fobs were next to the drivers door or what would happen if you pushed the unlock button on the fob to open the doors. I'll test some more and post again. Anyone get any different results?
Put both fobs in your pocket and start the car. Please tell me what happens. I'm afraid to try it.

Nothing bad will happen. i have done it. The only thing i do not know is which fob was the one that the car used to do the programing.
Well, there are some interesting experiences here. SWMBO always has a fob in her purse, but she never drives the car. It usually works better for us if she unlocks the doors from the passenger side, since I can't hit the release button (on the handle) twice to unlock her door, but she can hit it once, and it unlocks both. We get in, and the various programmed preferences are all the ones programmed into my fob. So, I had assumed that the antenna was directional, with preference to the one closest to the socket, or to the driver's seat.
Just my 0.02.

When I drive my wife's car, using my fob, she says that it re-programs all of her settings to mine.....for example, she has to re-program her radio station pre-sets back to her favorites after I drive her car. She's not too happy about it! I haven't asked the dealer about this 'cause getting the car in for them to look at is tough 'cause they're so far away....

Unlock behavior is programmable. You can set your fob to unlock both doors with a single press of the driver's door button. Sounds like yours is presently set to unlock only the driver's door; my wife has hers specifically set that way for parking-lot security when she is alone; mine is "both doors unlock"; either of our fobs unlock both doors when used from the passenger side.
