do you have to do anything special to upgrade from the 15 inch stock wheels to the 17 inch pace wheels (need to go to the dealer)? or could i just take the car to any tire place to have them put on the car?

just wondering if i need to do any re-calibrations or reset computers or anything to accomodate the larger wheels and tires.

You need to check out this thread: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...d.php?t=150863 where you'll find some links to various tire dealers...and info about the bolt pattern needed, as well as the tire pressure monitor system that you'll probably want to keep...TPM... Apparently you can take the TPM off your current set...but I'm not the person to explain that to you.

Read through that thread until someone comes along who can be more helpful.

 

The reason I am asking is because my Mini Dealer wants to charge me 420$ per wheel to "install" on my vehicle. Which caused me to think there has to be a reason that they want to charge so much. I am probably just gonna go to discount tire and have them put on, just wanted to see if that was wise or should i spend the 420$ per wheel for mini to do it.

 

From the way i read this you mean that is the price to put the wheels on your car. Does this include the rim price and the tire mounting price and the price to put the combo on the car?

But if it is only to put the tire wheel combo on the car. WOW, I am in the wrong business.

 

its mounting and putting on the car. it still seems high to me either way. im not trying to sound whiny(even though thats exactlly how i sound)im just seeing if taking the car to discount tire or any other tire place would be alright. im thinking both wheels i mentioned the 15" spooler wheels and the 17" pace wheels are both made by mini for mini's. so i am thinking that there shouldn't be a problem putting the pace wheels on the car (sensors should fit), especially at a cheaper price some place other than mini.

 

I jsut quickly priced out the cost of new rims, tires (winter runflats), and TMPS sensors at tirerack.com

Total was $1180.00 or $295.00 per wheel.

Now these are the least expensive rims i can find there, but the tires are rather expensive due to being runflats which are usually 50% to 80% more than non runflats.

Now if I was to go with another rims design it could cost as much as $600.00 for just the rim plus add to that the tire and the TPMS and you could easily be at $3550.00 for a set of four or $887.00 per wheel combo.

Now these do not include actually putting them on your car but that is rather easy to do. And if you don't want to do it a local shop will charge $20-50 per wheel.

SO depending on what is included in the "Installed" price it could be good it could be bad.

Well if you have already paid for the price of the Pace wheel and the tires separately then this is an awfully high price. I have a local shop near me that will remove the sensors for the 15's, put them on the 17's, mount the new tires to the 17's, balance and put on car for around $120 per wheel or $480.00 total for all four.

Thanks for the input. my plan was to do everything one step at a time to spread out the cost over time. i guess i was not expecting how expensive it was going to be.

step 1: buy the wheels (done)
step 2: buy all season tires/ mount them on wheel
step 3: get wheels installed on car

do i have to get run flats on the car or just regular tires?

 

If they are including the tire price the it may not be to bad depending on what tire they are putting on.

 

You do not need runflats. But if you do not have a spare tire (and my understanding is that if the car came with 15" wheel you probably do), then you would need to get one to be on the safe side.
