Look what I found..Mini Radar mount

I have been looking for a mount for my Passport 8500 so that I wouldn't have to use those ugly suction cup mounts and lo and behold, this is what I found.

Hope it helps.

hmmmmm I'm thinkin' I should probably get a radar detector, based on my recent "need for speed" addiction!

So will you use it with a radar detector, or are you contemplating attaching your gps somehow?

No its for the radar. I have the cable that attaches to your fuse box instead of using the cigarette lighter. All I have to do is run it around the windshield and down under the dash and wallla ... no cable.

I looked at these last year - nice pieces, and should function well... but I decided that I'd be happier with the radar detector mounted "stealthy" above the rearview mirror. That location has worked very well for me (and many others)... Having the detector dangling there obstructing my vision would drive me nuts I think...

Here's an old photo of where I put my Valentine One.

Since the photo, I've actually flipped it over, mounted it with velcro instead of the clip (to shift it to a little better location than the clip would allow and better hide the cable) and covered it with a black hosiery "footie" that makes it just about completely unnoticeable from inside and outside the car. I have the remote display on my steering column and remote audio/power control in front of my knee... so the "head unit" basically just acts as a radar sensor, and does it very well.

Pretty cool! I've been happy with a small patch of velcro on the dash (between the wipers). It's stealthy and gives the passport a clean view.

Just my .02.....

Ditto on what Blimey said. I looked at those as well a couple years ago but the above mirror mount seemed much more stealthy and out of my vision when in the twisties.

I used to have a radar detector, but I sold it on ebay years ago to help pay for a speeding ticket.

not to get off subject, but...

BlimeyCabrio, did you have a good experience with the Valentine? I was trying to decide between that or a passport...

I HAVE HAD A PASSPORT PORTABLE FOR SEVERAL YEARS AND REALLY LIKE IT. BUT LOOK AT THE NEW ONES AS YOU CAN PROGRAM THEM FOR AREAS KNOWN FOR FALSE SIGNALS. THE PORTABLE WORKS ON RECHARGABLE BATTERIES AND THEY LAST A LONG TIME, PLUS SAVE YA $$ BUT BE CAREFUL AS ON THE HIGHWAY WHERE YOU GET A FALSE, THERE COULD BE RADAR ANOTHER TIME THAT IS TRUE.

Just try to pry it from my cold, dead hand. My corpse will reanimate and eat your brains for trying to steal it.

I love it that much.

If I were a city street / freeway driver (mostly)... I might opt for the 9500 as the GPS memory features would help save your sanity and pick out the police radar in a sea of "falses"... but I don't live in an urban area, and I spend much time on the interstates between cities and on rural highways, where the ability to know the location, type, and number of sources is very valuable once you learn to interpret all that data.

There's another thread around here I can't find at the moment with some video links to the Passport and V1 tests in the same area. Also some video links of the Passport's GPS function causing it to miss some bogeys. YMMV.

Edit later...

Here's the thread I was thinking of. Post #29.

There's a ton of threads around here on this debate. I'd get the detector you want. I like my V1 but I've had it over a decade now and I'm use to the way it works.

The coolest radar detectors are the ones you don't see.

I agree with Blimey 100%. I have had mine for close to 10 years and I had to update it just this past month. I think it was well worth the 80 bucks. The other option was to buy a new Passport 8500 or the newer model which are pricey but worth the first time purchase. I cant even count the amount of times I have been saved from speedtraps. Yes radar detectors have their limitations but once you understand how they work, then you can use them effectively. Just my 2 cents.
I will post some pics shortly.
