Started to get the itch ...

... to add some mods.

Was thinking to tint the windows first but I'll wait on that a bit. Maybe later in the fall ...

Right now I just want some cool, innexpensive mods to tinker with.

Shoot some suggestions my way

How do you feel about debadging the rear? Some people love the look some people like to keep the badges. It's a personal preference.

If you like the clean look, it's the cheapest mod out there.....FREE

mine without the badges

You could always get a stubby antenna too. That's a pretty nice cheap mod and it's obviously an easy install. It really helps the look of the car

was never crazy about debadging ... i did take off the side moldings on my previous Mazda though and it did look better ... but I like the MINI bits.

Antenna wise ... again I went short on both my MC coupe (as it DID look like and RC car with the stock one) and on the Mazda ... but I feel this standard long antenna does suit the larger Clubman somewhat better.

I am not going to be easy ... ... but thanks for the ideas so far.

Not sure if they're to your tastes...

Other cheap bits:
  • Black out the beltline
  • Body colored handles on the rear and sides in vinyl (vinyl styles)
  • MCS/Aero front grille
  • Leather shift boots from redlinegoods.com
  • Euro arches to remove the side reflectors
  • Yellow fog lights from www.mpg-motoring.com
  • Whiter license plate lights (w5w)
  • Trade or tint the third brake light
  • Clear side turn indicators (oem)

Does the 'shark fin shaped" antenae that BMW use work well with the MINI? How difficult is it to change out?

Lurch70 you could paint your brake calipers. That was one thing I'm thinking about doing.

By the way, how expensive is window tinting in NYC? I had it done and it was around $150. Is that too expensive (or it's just more in NYC)? Trying to get an idea for price range.

Joe

Tint prices can range all over the place. I paid 120 for my MINI cooper and that was out in rural Ohio......so 150 for the bigger clubman is a good deal

  • Black out the beltline ... one of my favorite things about the MINI IS the chrome ... not too much (as I would not get the chrome line exterior) but the parts already there bling so nice in the sun when clean
  • Body colored handles on the rear and sides in vinyl (vinyl styles) ... see above
  • MCS/Aero front grille ... this I might be interested in ... is it the lower part of the grille?
  • Leather shift boots from redlinegoods.com
  • Euro arches to remove the side reflectors ... how do I get my hands on Euro ones?
  • Yellow fog lights from www.mpg-motoring.com ... digging this! Thanks!
  • Whiter license plate lights (w5w) ... hmm
  • Trade or tint the third brake light ... this could look interesting tinted.
  • Clear side turn indicators (oem) ... I really like the Orange, always felt they were more "Euro" as white ... heck there is no White in Europe as standard ... so not sure how they even got their name. And most American cars have red turn indicators ... so orange is really the novelty nowadays

Brake calipers are staying unpainted ... ... not into that. But thanks for the idea.

Tinting the Clubman will be around $250 in NY ... its not a price issue right now just I am digging the open airy feel for the summer. Will deal with this later this fall.

How 'bout some "easy-pull" straps for raising and lowering the rear seats from the back. IIRC, you can buy them for around $10-$20 or just make your own like I did. Actually, they were the very first mod. I did when I got my Clubman (even before the tint, living in sunny Florida ), and I use them constantly.

It's amazing how much better the car looks with dual exhausts.

I agree....I'm looking forward to Exhausts becoming available for our cars. I've looked under my Cooper and it has plenty of room to just install the dual exhaust from the MCS. You'd just need one piece of the heat shield.

I love my Whalen shifter; I'd say it's my favorite mod so far, followed closely by window & sunroof tinting. My first mod was the "no holes" front license plate bracket; did it on delivery. The seat pull straps work for me, and I have the third brake pulsar sitting here, I just have to get myself to do it. Anyone played with the variable version (6 or 10 pulses) and have an opinion?

is that the bracket that gets mounted behind the lower grille and is adjustable in height? ... making the plate kind of "float"
I like that ... but I don't like the $55 price tag

There is a stout bolt that goes into the front towhook receptacle, and the frame for the holder mounts to that bolt... it does kinda "float", and could be vulnerable to careless parallel parkers, but I like it. As for price, I can't say it's that much worse than many other mods & accessories for our MINI's. Not too many bargains out there.

I added a center stack decal that matches my dash. Here's what it looks like:

I got it from http://www.aestheticreations.net/. He can make them in many different colors and patterns. I think it really dresses us an otherwise matte black space.

Aluvendale,
Was this a stock item or did they make it for you? It does tie the dash areas together. Looks good!

Thanks! It does tie in to the rest of my dash. The pattern is a little larger than on the rest of the dash, but I think they plan on fixing it in the future. I was the first one to order it. It really does add to the overall feel of the interior. In my second picture you can see the design of the MINI dash compared to the new piece from Aesthetic Creations. I'm glad you like it!
