FINALLY - I got a thumbs up!

I was driving home from work today, and needed to change into the left lane. There was a guy on a Harley in that lane, so I slowed down a little bit to let him get ahead so I could then move in line behind him. As he pulled up beside me, he looked over at my Clubman with a HUGE grin and gave me a nod and a thumbs up.

GALILEO WAS FINALLY ADMIRED BY A STRANGER!!! It's about time.

I'm sure it gets admired all the time...silently. It's fun to be a celebrity.

Some lady in a CR hatch sped up to see me in my CR Clubman and looked so excited, giving me thumbs up and stuff.

Then when I was picking my gf up from work a cyclist rode by and looked me over, waved, and gave me thumbs up.

I don't mind being the center of attention sometimes

My CR/B Clubby Otto has been the center of attention from two of our local police the past two days on my way to or from my shop. Tonight as I passed one on a side road he pulled behind me for about 2 miles. At a stop light another driver pulled alongside me to ask how I like the Clubman. The cop had to see the dialog going on and the smiles. At the next light I took a left and he went on down the road. Glad to see him go. Our locals are great for intimidation hoping you will do something they can stop you for. I've seen it so many times.
After awhile maybe they'll realize this "old" lady (55) isn't worth following. I know well enough to not speed through town. I figure I could buy 50 gallons of gas for the price of a ticket!
I know red is a cop magnet, but I love the color and needed a bright spot in my life. Otto makes me smile

I was in the 04 MINI this morning and a girl waiting for the school bus got excited when she saw our car. She pointed and said something to her mom, and she smiled at us as we drove by... It's fun to be a celebrity.

I sure hope so. I was just really glad to be aware of it this time.

For some reason it seems MINIs showing courtesy in traffic elicits very positive responses from folks. I'm not sure if it's because the car is cute, or if they know the MINI could blow it's doors off if it chose to. For this reason, I like using MINI's deft and agile handling for making the roads safer....I get more thumbs-up that way!!!

For most probably because it's cute - they just don't know any better.

So far as I know, I've gotten one stare on the drive home from delivery, one head turn in a traffic jam and two thumbs up comments from fellow BRG drivers of an MCS as they walked by us in our MCCa down on the main street of our town. That's it that I'm aware of.

I think the majority of people don't really "get" it and just think it's a strange little car. We've returned to ours a couple times and found people checking it out and waiting around to ask questions - That's always fun. One time on a divided highway (in the first few days of ownership), we spotted another MINI going the opposite direction and watched him do a double-take as we passed by - That made us laugh out loud. But the best one was just last week as we were leaving our free Saturday car wash and lunch at the BMW dealer (gotta love it ). We heard a horn honking repeatedly behind us and when we looked around to see what was going on, a couple in a beautiful fairly new Bimmer pulled up beside us and said, "Take me to your dealer, we want one of those!" -Now that's priceless !!! (They were serious, so we directed them to the nearby MINI dealer.)

FWIW, ClubDal, Galileo gets a big from all of us here (and we're sorta strangers )!

Somebody came up to me at a parking lot yesterday and asked if I just got the car. He realized that my MINI was "bigger", "like a "MINI wagon". He asked a lot of questions, like, mileage and "do you have to be on a waiting list to get one of these?" to which I told him I waited two months - he was amazed. He said that he should have gotten one of "these" and that they look great! I was proud

I always do my utmost to provide courtesy on the road. It's the Mini Way!
