Really cool! Glad you were able to confirm they were original with the car.
It would be really interesting to know how many other Coopers were ordered with the Recaros.
I wish we had a spreadsheet of all the MINIs ever built. It would be so fun to sift through and find the craziest, rarest combinations. This has to be one of the rarest.
Not your usual, but very nice in its own way, pepper white Clubvan with black conical spoke 17" wheels.
A work in progress, aero bumpers body colour skirts and arches, along with a BMW E82 123D twin turbo setup ......201BHP and 400Nm out of the box before we start with a little remap work.
It's already had a little bit of coding work done, with the addition of MFSW and cruise, along with heated washer jets
I'm still figuring out how to extract the ISN from the DDE, and the CAS in order that I might pair up the DDE from the BMW, steep learning curve for me, as my previous excursions into diesel tuning extended to EDC15 and not EDC17.
On the plus side it's great fun getting to grips with the newer tech, and stimulating the old grey matter
marinabrian,
Love the Clubvan! Also such a rare Clubbie!
Thanks, it's hopefully going to turn out nicely, and a far cry from it's auction find status.
I was speaking to my friend Dave, who also owns an Ice Blue Clubvan yesterday, and his young son had asked his dad if he had noticed everyone looking as they drove along?
Dave's fleet includes two SD cooper hatches, A JCW Cooper S, a Soho Clubby identical to mine, a Clubby SD and a classic 1974 Clubman Estate fitted with a 160BHP VVC Rover engine !!
Wow! You have a fantastic and absolutely unique build planned... for an already very rare Clubbie! Very, very cool. Keep us posted on progress with it and enjoy!

Noticed the first hole in the plan while I had the engine out of the Soho when changing the timing chains earlier this week.
It would appear the balance shafts used on the BMW N4720 run in the place where the starter motor lives :(
Plan B is now in execution, a written off R56 Cooper SD......
This car war written off for water damage to the engine, so Friday saw the engine out, fitted onto the engine stand and stripped.
No valve damage, however one bent conrod.
So it's a new conrod, amazingly the piston, bore and big end bearings are unscathed, unfortunately the Mini engine has 28mm gudgeon pins, whereas the BMW has 32mm, which limits choice somewhat.
The shipping order for this job includes a full decoke, valves ground in and new stem seals, the new rod and boxed up with a timing chain set....something these N47 engines seem to need in spades, take a look at the wear in the ones in the Soho I replaced on Tuesday !!
How close to disaster? the only symptom of the impending doom, was a 1/2 second rattle on startup !! After cleaning the sump was slightly better
Hopefully the twin turbo set up from the B M W engine will still work ok with the Cooper SD lump, it's a work in progress, and we will see how it all evolves.
I’m pretty sure it’s this seat, https://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-g1130l, I will double check on it. I got it for a hell of a deal, so far it holds my non having butt in the seat. Haven’t harnessed it up yet, they are still attached just laying in the back seat.

Not bad. I couldn't give up my lounge leather and heated seats, except for a pair of GP2 seats. But, I can't afford those

if I had leather this wouldn’t have happened, and let’s face it the sport cloth seat is boring, but mini does know how to do a heated seat, and that I will miss, maybe😉, April to October. Then once I’m back from MSSD in October I’ll swap back in the heated seat for winter.
Do the seats still fold forward? this was the awkward part of the seat conversion in the Clubvan, but overcome thankfully.
The donor seats were identical to these half leather and Alcantara, and they hug in all the right places, the most difficult part was sorting out the seat occupancy sensor, which has been relocated to the seat squab from the original cushion

Peugeot 208 GTi seats
Yes it folds forwards and reclines, and slides. I did have to drill 4 new mounting holes. Fits perfectly in the mini and let’s just say for the price I paid, it’s one of my cheaper mods. Sure would look good with a new steering wheel, 😉😉GD😁
Looking good Nik, 6 days until I flood this post with pics from MOTD. Most likely going to be pics for 6 days, wait for the under the waterfall pic, already planned just need to Execute. Might sneak a pic or 2 from Sunday’s prepping, basically just needs a good bath and wax, and checking of fluids. Got the 215/45/17 re-71r’s mounted up last Friday.
@Nik, love the wheels! You gotta update your car emoji to match the rear view mirror color and minus the hood strips, lol
The mirror covers and bonnet striped are Hampton pattern. In some lighting the covers look black. And from this angle, you can't see the stripes. I do, however, need to paint my brakes red to match...

I really like the Hampton, there is one which has appeared on my regular dog walking route and I've been dropping none too subtle hints to my wife that it may be a good idea to add one to the fleet.
She says this might be a consideration if I get her AC working, I'm a bit stumped at the minute though, new pipework where previous butchery had damaged it, a new condenser and it holds vacuum well.
As I'm not FGas registered, the system was gassed up by a mobile tech, hmm more investigation required
