I bought this 2012 S CPO in 2014 with 36k miles. I was looking at a 1 series and this as I wanted that BMW handling. Chose this because it would fit our tennis ball machine in the trunk and it had more headroom than the 1 series (or a 2022 Toyota 4Runner for that matter. ) I’m 6’2” and so are my boys now and I will sit in back. Little did I know the suspension wasn’t BMW so i put in some Konis and a RSB.
I handed the car down to my daughter. She hated me for making me learn to drive stick. But she loves it now. She then handed down to my first son. He made this canoe in school and brought it home this way.
Youngest is learning to drive and he said he only wants to drive stick.
The car is getting long in the tooth at 106k miles. Fuel injector just went, turbo is probably next. Got it home and the lights wouldn’t turn off. FRM module needs work now.
I came here to see what else may go to decide if I’m going to keep the car.
See the post about the new recall regarding the FRM and water intrusion. You may be able to get it covered.

This is me with my 2010 R55 JCW standing atop the dragon last spring 2023. If you've never been... its a highly recommended drivers spot. I live just 2.5 hours east in WNC... it definitely it calls to me.

heh- yup, car problems just get worse as we get older, huh? Hi Yjssab!

As in the quantity? I see a similar E46 presence behind the R55. Add an R53 and an old Jeep ZJ (both over 200k miles) and you'll be in the same boat as me! 🤣 We love every one of them, though two need to go.
I’ve been trying to decide what to
do about my hood. A lot of the
clear coat has been peeling over
the past year or so. Interestingly,
the paint on the rest of the car
still looks great at 15.5 years old.
(2009 JCW Clubman)
Keep it as is?
Have the hood repainted (up to
$1k for a good professional job)?
Buy a prepainted hood and put it
on myself (also about $1k)?

put a wrap over it ($?)?
I would try to find an original, correct color hood to replace it. Our R53 has similar clear coat failure from sub-par paint work in the past. It's the best way to match the natural fade. I have had good luck with quality paint work and paint matching, but it is hard to find. Unless you know of a shop you trust to do quality work, finding a good used hood is your best option, but probably still around $1k, unless you get very lucky at the salvage yard.
I bought my 09 Clubbie in Nova Scotia as well - have a GOOD look at the front & rear subframes. Body-wise, mine was excellent but have replaced both subframes in the two years since i bought it. (plus lots of other parts, but that's Mini!) Great lookin ride though - enjoy!
Sadly, my family is outgrowing our first Mini so I'm selling it with 85k miles. It has been an excellent and exciting ride every time, but now we need more seats, doors and trunk space. Replacing it with a VW 18 years older and certainly slower, haha. Picture from this morning. Will miss the barn doors. 1992 Jetta 5 speed When I carried a full size spare on top. 1.8 NA, around 100 hp, maybe

But I see a 60 series Land Cruiser and an E39 in the garage...both bigger than the mk2 Jetta! I was expecting a Eurovan, honestly.

Correct you are. I just need all three to seat 5, so the Mini has to go. Wish I could hang on to it as a "fun car" but I can't justify keeping 4 vehicles right now unfortunately.
