Golfers in Cabrios

Ok, so I'm an avid golfer. I bought the MINI on the premise that I could fold the seats down and slide the clubs in the boot and still be able to put the top down, or at the very least I could toss them in the backseat and go, but I've since found out that neither works.

There's not enough clearance with the seats down to put my clubs in without removing the shelf from the boot (therein disabling the rag top), and the one time I put my clubs in the back seat the bottom of the bag scratched the plastic of the MINI something awful. So, is there a solution? Should I look for a new, smaller bag? I need assistance!

P.S. putting the clubs in the front seat works but only if I'm the only person in the car... which isn't often.

I brought my step-son home from practice one day in the cabrio. We just seat-belted the clubs in the back seat and went with them standing up. Looked funny, but worked like a charm.

There's an idea. I'll have to give that a try.

MBE try a different bag like you said or try to put a towel between the bottom of your bag & the plastic

Thats probably the next step, but I really like my bag. Its old though, so the bottom is pretty torn up. Maybe if I sanded it really well it wouldn't scratch the MINI as easily.

I have a smaller carry bag, and it barely fits through the boot opening, sort of diagonally from one corner of the boot to behind the passenger's front seat. I don't think there is any way to fit 2 sets of clubs without standing them up in the back seat.... Oh, the price we pay for our little gokarts!

Golf baggage

I'm an avid golfer and have been able to get 2 bags in my MCC. I have an oval/teardrop shaped Taylormade bag that has a low profile when laid on its side. It slides right under the rear shelf. Also ,I load the bag going in from the drivers door laying it diagonally over the folded down seat. The second bag will fit if you take out the driver and woods and lay the bag over the first in the opposite diagonal position, then cram the free clubs in the remaining space. I don't think a "cart bag" will fit back there. The Mini vinyl is not very tough, I've scuffed it with my shoes and other luggage.

I'll have to give that a try. I'm thinking its time for a new bag though, I've had my Ping Hoofer bag for 7 years now (although it still looks the same as the day I bought it). Those bags are built like tanks

how the clubs work for me...

i'm an avid golfer too (as judged by my enthusiasm for the game, not by my typical score!) and i can pretty easily fit two sets of clubs in my mini with the top down. the first bag i slide in from the passengers side with the passanger side rear seat down, sort of diagonally into the boot (it sometimes helps to have the boot open and lift the bag onto the ledge just in side the boot door) the second bag lays on top bottom on the rear drivers side seat, club heads on top of bag 1, qed! i've done the 'strapped in vertically' thing, just not interested in that many odd looks!

see ya on the links!

Went one season carrying my cart bag diagonally across the folded back seats with the passenger seat moved forward a few clicks. Then I decided to buy a smaller bag that would fit through the opening between the folded seats and the shelf. That distance if, I remember correctly, is just under 9 inches. Went to a golf store armed with a ruler and measured bags. They even let me take samples outside and try putting them in. Ended up with a Mizuno stand bag. It can go in either from the passenger side or from the boot. I also have a cheap but small pull cart that fits in the boot if I take the wheels off.

I suppose the upside benefit must be that you do not have to rent a golf cart when you get to the course. You can just stage at the first tee with the MINI.

I shoehorn a cello, 125w amplifier, and assorted accessories into mine, but if you're not a Zen master of packing, you can always retrofit your MINI with a trailer hitch from http://www.miniaturetrailer.com and get a cargo platform to mount to it. In fact, I think there's some company that specifically makes a hitch-mounted golf bag platform to hold 2 golf bags back there.

I removed the rear seat today. I thought I'd build a flat floor but I kind of like the roundish recesses in the bottom. Maybe I'll just carpet it. The first thing I did was put two sets of gol clubs into it, sliding them through the larger opening between the trunk and the passenger compartment.

In a year and a half I've only used the rear seat three times, so I guess I can give that up. My previous solution for golf was to take the toyota pickup.

I dont have these installed on my Mini yet. But check out www.drivelikeapro.com. Its basically a mount that you put on the rear of your mini that will hold 2 bags. You will need the MiniFini or some sort of Hitch receiver on the rear for these. For me these by far are the best and they are easy to get the bags in and out.

CraigATL, you beat me to it! Those Autolinx carriers are great. They're very well built, lockable, durable, and you can use them to carry things besides just golf clubs.

I've seen them at motorcycle shows quite a bit in the past and they always seem to sell really well.

Prices seem to be the same (or maybe a little less) if you order them from MiniDoMore:
http://www.minidomore.com/mini_coope...ub_carrier.php

and you can support a great vendor and contributor to the NAM community (cheap plug, I know -- but I'm in no way affiliated with MiniDoMore . . . just love the product)

I loooooooooove the convertible but I wouldn't give up golf for it.

No, I would just play with a 3-iron, a 61 degree wedge, and my putter. My handicap may go up but I'd arrive to the course in style !
