Key Problem

This morning I went to turn on my 2006 Cabrio and the lights and radio went on but the starter didn't engage. I tried it a few more times and nothing. Took the key out and put it back in the same way and nothing. Finally turned the key around so the face of the key was away from me and it started like normal, for now. I'm afraid that the key won't work either way soon. Does anyone have any input into this situation?

get your battery checked

I'll bet the key was just a coincidence

The ignition switch might be worn....as these cars age, more are failing...
I would first look at the battery, the ground cables, and even try a spare key....
Did you hear a "ding" when you inserted the key? If you listen carefully, there is usually a audible ding when the key is read by the EWS system....

+1

Definitely test the battery, but it could possibly be the switch 61-32-6-913-965. Some good info in this NAM thread here if the battery tests out alright.

Thanks. It could be the battery since the car sits during the week. I cleaned up the key (I only have one) and it worked normally after that. We'll see what happens this coming weekend. Thanks for the replies.
