R52 Anyone else on their 3rd roof?
Anyone else on their 3rd roof?
I took Sunnie in for the 25K service last week & just happened to mention that the scratches were back on the rear windows. The roof & windows were replaced last September. To make a long story short, after taking the roof & windows apart, they found broken pieces & pieces that were frozen in place. The roof was showing wear again.
I had noticed in the past several weeks that the roof was very noisy when raising & lowering. Also, on several occasions it wouldn't go down. So 2 days later, I took my MINI home with her 3rd roof & rear windows in 2 years. Anyone else on their 3rd roof?

Gotta love German engineering....sounds very familiar to the Audi/Porsche issues we have out our dealership with convertible tops. Its a non stop affair. But there's definitely no connection to the three manufacturer's right? Hmmm I'd have to say German's may make cars look good but can't build them reliably for the life of them. Maybe the Germans should get back together with the Japanese and their reliability might improve just a tad. But what do I know!!!

Still on my first roof, but have a second on order. When Gromit was in for his 10K service, we pointed out some wear that was beginning to show just to get it on the record. Apparently our wear wasn't in the "normal" location for roof wear, and MINIUSA is going to replace the roof for us and wants to see what is causing our wear. No scratches on the rear windows, though.
Sorry to read your plight
I'm still on my 1st roof. I wonder how long I would have to wait for a new roof since I have a green one?? No issues with window scratches... a little bit of wear on the roof, but not enough to make me want to replace it. I guess it's not as noticeable since the green roof isn't as dark as the black or blue ones.

Bummer Lois....
I'm still on the original roof....no scratches on the windows...knock on wood.....
I'm just now starting to see a bit of wear on the roof (2 years later) but everything else works just great - no issues with anything broken or roof getting stuck up or down....or leaking...so I'm REALLY afraid to have a new roof put on.....

I'll make sure I bring up the roof wear during my next service appointment. I really didn't notice much wear at my 10K service. I remember the TSB regarding roof adjustments. I was supposed to get a call/card in the mail to do the adjustment... but the dealer went through some personel changes in their service dept and I never got called back to perform the adjustment.

Welcome btw
Thanks MiniMac,
I will check them out. I am new to Mini's though I have loved them and Classics for years. I just hope I did not by a Pig in a Poke with a cabrio that needs constant attention. At some point the factory is going to get tired of replacing them under warranty. When it becomes a classic, it might be a high commodity.
Thanks for the welcome. It is great to be here.

We are on our 3rd top and they were replaced under warranty. Both were replaced when the Bee was in for other service. We had noticed a little wear before the first replacement but not enough to bother us. The second replacement was a complete surprize. They obviously really care about the appearance of the top but I would prefer to replace it later when the appearance is an issue to us and the warranty is gone. We have not seemed to have the scratched glass issue that Louie suffers.
