Decided to try redoing my blue convertible top. Bought some Rit dye on Amazon $3 A bottle got 3 in case one wasn’t enough .
Washed it twice. The directions said to mix it with hot water. But ignored that mixed it with room temp water and while thoroughly wet I had a dollar store sponge squeegee and applied dipping the sponge on the wet top. Washed the blue dye off the car and did the regular wash and dry on the body. It turned out better than I expected. Cost $3 and elbow grease.
Like new again picked Azur blue Rit dye.
Thanks,Yes I was thinking of a good water repelling spray on. Can’t believe a Cheap fabric dye would work as good as that expensive British convertible dye.My Mini sits In south Florida outside and takes a lot of abuse.
I’ve been wanting to do this on a black canvas top but wasn’t sure if it would work or what it might do to the plastic window. I have an idea how to possibly mask the plastic protect it, but not sure if it will be a liquid tight seal, and/or if it will damage the window as it’s about 34 years old now.
This is a 4 year old pic, it’s the only good one of the top.
Yeah if you do a good job shouldn’t be a problem. The Rit dye that got on my car was easy to rinse if you do it right away. The color I chose was pretty dead on.
