Sunroof slide mechanism broke

Having a problem with the sliding mechanism on driver side. I cannot even manually SLIDE the driver side. Pass side operated correctly. I searched everywhere to get assistance. has anyone had this problem. on top of this i’ve got to find the problem with driver rear window to complete the convertible repair process.

only cable and whatever piece that is, moves.

alright, i managed to get the sunroof back after fishing out, what i think is part of the cable slide. but it’s definitely that and the locking mechanism when it closes. i just need to figure how to remove all that, i haven’t found how-to’s or anything.

Followed the video but can't get the slider to unlatch

I followed the video up to the point where you push the screwdriver into the plastic piece to unlatch the slider. I was able to get the passenger side done but no amount of pushing is unlocking the driver side. I used a long flathead and it still doesn't unlatch. Is there any other way to unlatch it or do I need to just set the car on fire.

Thanks!

Same problem F57

Hello, I’m from Germany. I have the same Topic with my F57 and the same answer from the German BMW Mini Dealer (changing section, cost 4000€). The construction is really poor. I have the problem on both sides. (Wires go out without function)

Hello guys,

I'm selling those plastic clips, 3d printed from the original parts, they are not exactly the same (visually), but they are fitted to the R52 i own and they work without issues.
You also do not have to disassemble the top fully to fit them, even if you're doing it alone, you can just remove the locking arm (front part) and the small part that holds into the A pillar so you can fit the top plastic guide.
I'm selling them for 50$ (the 4 clips) and i ship them by mail worldwide, i pay the shipment since i'm in Europe.
I will give you free replacements if any of them breaks or for some reason fails in the future.

Been running them for this whole summer, been using / unusing the sunroof for over 200 times, still look solid.
Also fitted in my friends R52 too that had the same problem, good cables, missing clips.

ABS printed, around 80%, can get 100% but don't think it's necessary since they are press fitted. (0.5mm or something scrapes of sometimes when fitted, specially the top (longer) clip)

You can message me here.
Thank you.

The 3d printed pieces below as requested, i can print them at request in ABS 80% which i think it's best.
They are working fine and they are tight-fitted, i got the originals for the LEFT SIDE CABLE still aswell for sale if anyone wants for 300€ + shipping. (including the cable of course, LEFT side complete set part of 54347174761 .
I'm not trying to profit off anyone with this, i tried for many months to buy or find 3d printed pieces of someone, could not find any and my R52 was scraping the back headrests for 1y+, so... i finally found a good set of cables with clips and all the work to print them and design them with a model that works.
I fitted mine with these clips, even though i had the original cable & clips. (only have 1 set now as above)

So, i'm selling the bellow for 50$/€ a set for the 4 clips with guaranteed replacements if any of them break. (been working for months in 2 cars currently, 2 more bought and no bad experiences yet)
I can also refund the money if for some reason they don't work for you or you break them.
Contact me privately for these, the price is fixed since i pay the shipment worldwide.
Instructions on how to replace will be sent together with them or privately. (the actual replacement process i find easier without disassembling the fabric) , i can also post here if you are interested, not rocket science, but the way i like to do it.
Thank you all.

Nice! They'll fit nicely, guaranteed
Just gotta be careful on the first try when the clip part of the sunroof first meets the rail again, it will be tight.

The instructions cover this, thank you again.

Hi,

One more data point. I ordered a set of the 3D printed roof slide parts from NotThisMind.

They arrived in the US after about 7 days.

They look good and seem like they will fit.

I am keeping them as backup, until my worn pieces finally fail.

FYI

Today I installed new 3d printed clip. On the left side, top one and it fits great! It took me about 15 minutes. I am so happy that my roof is 100% functional now!

Very easy job. For me 1/10 its just few screws and 15 minutes of my time :D
I though about If I should change the bottom one either. But its ok now so I decided to not change and keep it for future.
Thank you so much.
