Title: Automatic transmission problem – 2008 Mini R32 (R56) with fault codes 1786, 1787, 1698

Body:

Hi everyone,

I'm having issues with the automatic transmission on my 2008 Mini Cooper (R56). The car seems to be shifting poorly, and I ran a diagnostic scan which revealed the following fault codes in the DME (ECM2):
  • 1786 – DME: Transmission ratio actuator – range of performance problem
  • 1787 – DME: Transmission ratio actuator – open circuit
  • 1698 – DME: Transmission control module – activation fault
Also, in the Kombi (instrument cluster), I have a fault indicating a problem with the electronic control unit.

Battery voltage was around 14.13V at the time of the scan, so that seems okay.

What I have already done:
  • Replaced the speed sensor
  • Replaced the idle air control valve position sensor (stepper motor drain position)
  • Tested with another CVT transmission control unit (ECU)
Unfortunately, the issue is still present.

Has anyone dealt with these codes before? Could this be a faulty transmission actuator, a wiring issue, or something else? Any advice on where to start troubleshooting would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your help, and sorry for any inconvenience.

Best regards,
