Little Rip In Top

I have a new little rip or puncture in my top. Not sure if someone came by and hit it with something or if it happened from use but I think it was hit with something. Could I patch it from the inside? Anyone had any luck doing anything to prevent tears from spreading?? please help!!!

I patched my VW top (also a high quality fabric roof) by slapping a piece of vinyl against the hole with black RTV aka silicon glue.

It was a slash about 6 inches long, and the patch held for over a year when I finally got around to replacing the top.

I actually went to a place that did top replacements and this was what they did for a temp' patch at no charge . . .

My area did not crease when the top was folded tho and I'd expect that to make something of a difference.

Yea, a trim shop can fix it.

Did you have the tsb on the top done in the past around 2005 ? And was there a warn mark there before ?

I have never had any work done on the top. I'm not sure it was worn there. I don't think it was. What is a tsb? What is a trim shop>>??

Trim shop : Does convertible top and body work as a upholstery shop. Should be a local hot rod shop that does this.

For the R52 Convertible Top TSB ( technical service bulletin ) and parts :

interesting PS

my top story has an interesting back story

living in a townhouse, with both cars parked in front of the front door, one morning I stumbled between the cars to grab the paper.

Back in the house and locking the door my mind said, "there was someone IN THE CAR."

So I peeked out a window and sure enuf there was a person in the front seat! So I dialed 911 and reported a robbery in progress.

An hour later I got a call back from the local police asking if the person was still there .... they suggested I bring the car to the local station for fingerprints in the next few days .....

Miami circa 1984

Radio was gone from the car ... 6 inch slit in the top where they reached in to pull the lock button and a fish filet knife left on the pass' seat.
