Radar detector placement

Anyone have a recommendation on radar placement? I have mine just under the mirror at the moment. I am thinking about the eye for the rear of the car. It needs a view of the rear and having a convertible makes this a challenge.

Does your radar only detect laser coming from the rear? I'm pretty sure once you're hit by laser they've already caught you. So I tend not to worry about it having line of sight out the back.

But maybe I'm wrong, I'm sure someone on here would know better than me.

I always thought the same way however, my radar's owners manual mentions that it can detect laser or lider if it bounces off another vehicle. But at the same time, laser is so hard to detect anyways that it may not be worth it to have it up near my mirror. It looks tacky anyways. I drive a lot...this past 6 weeks that I have owned the car I have already put close to 5k on it. My cruise does not work and I find myself driving through the foot hills in east Georgia or west Alabama going faster than I want to. My cruise is just another thing on the list to fix. For some reason it flashes twice at me when I hit the button to turn it on (not engage)

My detector seams to be unreliable with laser. I think the sunlight sets it off sometimes. Because I never seam to get false alarms in the evening. Another reason I don't worry about the laser detection. Luckily around here they mostly use K and Ka radio frequency radars.

Bummer about your cruise control not working. Hopefully you can get that fixed soon.

Yup...have seen the same thing (false laser alarms)... Kinda annoying!!
You have a conflict on placement....
For laser, lower is generally considered better since the cops point the laser low, generally planning on having it bounce off the license plate or headlights...if by pick up some stray laser light, and it goes off...you are USUALLY already caught, or the car next to you is...
Radar, bring RF, s much more "bouncy" and the higher is better...the old "height is might" is true even with a "beamed" RF scource....the rf spreads out much better than reflected light...so hight increases the range of detection....
I have a hardtop...but mine is suctioncupped at just above the wiper height so folks behind me cannot see the info on the lights due to the dash shape from most angles...I wanted to get a mirror mount and move the hardwire connection I wired up (about a 5 minute job), but never got around to ordering one...think craven made some nice ones...

I have mine mounted here, I rarely get false alarms but I mostly do country driving. I have the escort x8500 and I wouldn't even drive without it, saved me countless times. I use the long straight cable and run the wire through my glove box.

You can VERY easily hide the cord...push it into the gap at the base of the windshield...then I ran it to the driverside door...ran it through the gap between the upper dash part and the side...the ran the cord to where I tied into the fuse block...
The remote mute can be comviently be mounted anywhere.... Mine is on the tray of my euro parcel shelf just before it is connected to the fuse...
Works great...yeah it is a good unit...
Upgraded mine to the one with the GPS so I can store false spots, etc .
The false are laser only...think they are from reflections off the hood getting bend like a prism by the glass...have know a few folks that have similar issues.

Awesome... Everyone. I just bought the Beltronics 940. I will keep it above the wipers in the center and not worry about the rear protection.

I have mine mounted above my rear view mirror. Barely fits, but no one else but me can see it. I mounted a remote silencer button down below the toggle panel so I don't have to reach up for that.
