recommended coolant for 07 R52

Car had a temperature spike the other day and now fan is staying on after car is shut off. looked at coolant reservoir and it looks low. First I just want to top it off when cool and do not want to use the wrong juice. Do not see any obvious leaks but I have not been underneath to look at the water pump.

any help appreciated also any DYI write ups for a water pump replacement would be awesome

Thanks

Any major brand anti-freeze that is phosphate and silica free should be fine.

OK got under the car this morning had to drive the car on boards to get the jack under the rubber post. These pics are from the back of the engine clear drips. Given the location I am 90% sure that this is likely from the T-sat some hand holding for this diagnosis would be appreciated

Thanks

and

so in my comparison to this great thread

R52 s or non s?
On the s the waterpump is attatched to the sc (same diy as the r53)...
From the pic i think it is an s, so
Look st the seam on the coolant tank...they split and leak...
Next look at the thermostat...earlier gen1 had many gaskets fail....your car should have a newer style one, but could still fail...
If you look at the waterpump, look at the weep hole to check for failing seal...
with drips, it blows back, and follows gravity, so it can be tuff to tell unless you find the scource.

Imo, stick with the same coolant as in the car....
If blue, bmw/ mini coolant...or of you need to add it, there is a euro version sold in some suto stores...
it is not quite exactly the same as yellow, green, red, or orange...most close to the yello/green.
Then again, once flushed or drained, you csn use any type ....phosphate free as mini minia has stated.

Hi

It is indeed an S. The coolant tank looks good in that it is not leaking and there is no sign of leaking from it. It is bad in that it is too opaque to see the level of coolant without taking off the cap. Remember I am a 2007 R52 so it is the SC engine not the turbo so are you saying that the T-stat gasket was upgraded by mini by 2007? Will check the water pump but that is on the other end of the engine and the leaks are at the rear which is why I was thinking T-stat. weird to be able to jack both front and rear from jack point. will have to jack from the other side to spy the water pump.
