Fuel MPG

I have an 08 S Cabrio. I'm averaging 24.5 MPG. What are others getting? Also, would I notice any increase in fuel economy if I start to use the paddle shifters to drive with vice the auto transmission.

With a gen1 hard top I get 28-30 highway, high teens in town depending on how I drive...and that is with a pulley...mpg stayed very similar before/after the mods...the change was the power, and if I chose to use it lost mpg. Just remember, good gas with high octane is super important on a gen1 Supercharged car......Your MPG seems to be right depending on driving style/driving type.

I have a 2005 MCSc with a Webb 15% pulley, JCW intake and exhaust, and use only premium gas. With spirited highway driving I get 29 MPG (could probably get 30 MPG if I drove 65 all the time!)

06 JCW cabriolet and with combined city and highway commute, I'm lucky if I get 24. But then I'm hard on the throttle most of the time.

My 03 MCS 6 speed gets around 22-24MPG, mostly around town driving with a little freeway driving. This is calculated MPG, not the computer MPG that reads 2-3 MPG higher. We also have up to 10% ethanol in our gas (Washington state) so that is part of the problem. I lost about 3 MPG when they introduced it year round. On road trips I get 28-30MPG at 75-80MPH where it's legal (or almost).

Just remember that gen2 cars (turbo) cars get much better mpg than gen1...and the cabrio's made the change from gen1 to gen2 2 years later than the hard-tops. The disadvantage is gen2 cars with direct injection suffer from carbon on the intakes...and fuel addatives will NOT help, since fuel is injected directly into the combustion chamber. To keep your cars running great, with awsome MPG, I would encourge you to read the thread on how to "sea-foam" a gen2 car.
Congrats on the great MPG!!

My '03 MCS JCW got 26-28 in my combined city/hiway weekly commute, when it's really cold or really hot out the mileage would suffer some.

On longer trips it would get about 30, but speed really makes a difference, if you slow down to 65 from 75 your mileage will jump 4-5.....

35

I did a long drive from NYC to Key West. The total trip was mostly highway miles with some local driving. Calculated 35 MPG on more than 3K trip. I have a 2009 just a Cooper.
Of course if I drive in NYC I never check the burn it's impossible to get precise numbers.

Then I really think I made the right decision not getting the MINI Sidewalk and getting a 2007 Z4 instead. That same motor is in my 530xi and I get close to 30 on the highway at 85 mph! I should get that or better on a manual Z4. They were both almost the same price, too!

I think you may have a computer problem. Best I' ve managed on a tank is 40, all highway. Zero your trip odometer next fill up and figure your mileage the old fashioned way. Or could be you're getting REALLY good gas.
