Any reason to avoid 2005, stick with 06+
Still looking for my Mini, grrr.
I've found one that looks nice (while the two dealers I've been talking to just drag their feet...) - it's a 2005 with 42k on the clock. Is there any reason to avoid the 2005s, being the first cabrio year, or are they all just as solid as the 06 and up?
Thanks!
Dave

The only reason I can think of is the 2005 cars are now out of warranty. You may still find a few 2006 cars in warranty and the dealer could CPO the car (extended warranty). Otherwise, there were very few changes from 2005 to 2006. (color and a few options becoming standard equipment).
Avoid the 2005 cabrio?
I have heard (on this site as well as at the dealer) that there were problems with the 2005 (and some 2006) convertible top mechanism that resulted in (very) premature wear and in some cases, the scoring of the back window.
That said, my 2007 is only 27 months old and 28.4K miles and I am seeing slight wear already (shiny spots and a couple of thread breaks).

You should be golden. I've had an 05 cabrio (bought 3 years ago with 44k) and not had a single problem. The roof is very well made/designed for a convertible.
I used to drive a Miata, and had to do several window repairs on it. Welcome to the top down club, I recommend investing in a leather motorcycle jacket, warm hat and gloves that fit in your glove compartment so you can motor topless all year round.
