Hibernating for the Winter

Little Crush3r is getting ready for extended garage time as the snow flies for the first time this winter. It was 71 on Monday!

This winter I was thinking about replacing the plastic cladding on the backs of the seats. Getting in and out of the back has left a bunch of scratches. The dealership has the parts for $85 but they suggested a heat gun and "Black Again" even though they aren't black! Same thing with the trunk, I thought I'd get all the plastic pieces neaten up. One is happens to be a4 inch scratch on the orange accent piece on the door. That one bothers me the most but I haven't decided how I'm going to handle that piece.

I got an a couple of small scratches on the exterior that I will try to rub out but how do you handle the chips on the front spoiled? Also it might get too cold to touch up the exterior using a portable heater in the middle of winter, any thoughts?

I too am putting my toy away for the winter. I have many scratches (darn kids) on the back of my seats and would be interested in hearing about your success on repairing them. I was considerinig having a local company cover them to match the seats.

Additional question for you...Do you disconnect your battery, use a charger or just start the car every now and then until it comes out of storage?

I asked the dealership and they said to pull the positive line off the battery. I know others use a battery conditioner like Battery Minder but I don't have any experience with it so I'm not sure how well it works. This weekend I'm busy but by next weekend I'll try the heat gun on the plastic to see if it removes the scratches. I bought a bottle of Black Again but forgot where I put it I hate it when I do that!

I don't get to put mine away, but I did just start working from home so now it will be mostly in the garage...

Well no luck on either the heat gun or black again! They both dull the scratch but don't really hide them. Black Again was for exterior use only so I applied it to a small spot on the plastic cladding on the boot lid. Oh well.

We're planning on replacing the two rear panels due to scratches too. Price doesn't seem too bad to make it look pretty again. It's amazing what can fit in a car when you can remove the top! Perhaps we've gone a little crazy but sometimes we've just had to much fun. Be interested to see how your replacement goes.

Would he do it again? Was it easy or a big PIA? Has he done the back panels too?
