How smart is your dog?

Well my dog is now 3 years old and he's had his share of rides in the car, and yes, he wears doggles. (and a seatbelt).

He can now distinguish the exhaust sounds of two of our cars! He can hear the MINI exhaust from about 2 or 3 blocks away. I think he hears the put-put backfiring of the exhaust.

Does anyone else have a dog that has his/her ears tuned to the MINI's exhaust note?

I have a very smart dog, but we don't have our MINI yet, so she only know her "jobs". She is the best!

Our dog can't tell the real doorbell from one on TV.

My wife tells me that she knows I'll be driving in the driveway about 2 minutes before I get there. We have 6 (yes 6) 2 to 5 pound Yorkies. They start running around the bedroom when they "hear Winnie." They know it's time to go for a ride with the top down.

My dog is very smart. I can't attest to him recognizing the MINI when I am almost home but that would probably be because he is always in it with me

gemgirlpa: well your dog has a lot of work to do with a new job once you get your MINI!

Dogs are funny creatures, that's for sure. Trevor (my dog) is still getting used to the new GReddy on my TL, but he's coming around.

Now that's impressive. The intake is much more subtle then the exhaust so kudos to your pooch!

Hahaha funny how you washed-out your last sentence Scoopmama...

-My dog can distinguish my work clothes [scrubs] from my casual jeans and tank tops, or capri and baby tee ones. She can tell when I'm going out for fun. When I'm in my scrubs, she ignores me and won't even give me a "kiss" goodbye, but when I'm in my other get-up she gets all excited and runs to her drawer for her doggie stuff because she knows that when I go, she goes.

Oh yeah, my "other baby" won't be here 'til July but when it does, we'll see how much more excited my 1st baby gets!

Oh mine are pretty smart. They can tell the difference from the VWs that are in our neighborhood and the MINIs. And Guinness (our Lab) knows when I am coming home and is barking as I am parking across the street.
They know the difference between the TV and the real doorbell, but still G barks- if it is the TV he looks at the TV when it rings, and if it is ours, he is up at the door waiting to see who has come for a visit.

You say 5 words and they both are ready to go..."wanna go for a ride?" and they are ready and KNOW which cars are ours! i just laugh

My dog can't tell the MINI is coming home, but he can hear the Mailman a block away. It's not a pretty sight.

Poor Scrappy

My dog Missy is very smart. My dog Scrappy is very sweet but not very bright. We have to shut the front door or Scrappy will walk into the glass door over and over. When we hand out treats, Missy barks like there's someone at the door and eat scrappy's treat while he runs to check it out. He doesn't have a mean bone in his body- he just forgets stuff....

Labs are the best! Ours will sit by the door an let me know when "daddy" comes home by the sound of his Jeep. So I'm sure i will get the same respect when I pull in with my MCS!
Ours is yellow, what's yours?

Our dog is tuned into the mail truck also. Perhaps that's because the mail carrier always has 'cookies'?

My dog Britney Ears knows the sound of our new Mini. she doesn't bark when I pull in the driveway with it. She also knows how to spell. she can understand and find her B-A-double L, her R-O-P-E, and her B-O-N-E. She hasn't been for a ride in the Mini yet but I haven't even had the car for a month yet, My friends on the other hand tend to let their toungs hang out of the corner of their mouths and bark while riding in the passenger seat.

My dog is a cat :)

And not just any cat, the neighbor's cat. Sits on the flagstone in the summer mornings, waits for us to get up, gets fed, litters, gets petted, and goes back outside to the patio chair covered with the towels.

A perfect pet, no vaccinations or vet bills, just a little Meow mix and he's our friend ! Occasionally leaves a headless bunny in the backyard for our delight.
Already knows to dodge the neighbors' MINI's, will soon learn to dodge ours..

We have an 11-year-old chocolate lab named Cooper. Believe it or not, he wasn't named after the car and my handle is an homage to him, not my car!

Anyway, when my wife was in film production, she used to take Cooper along on shoots that were taking place in scenic areas like Telluride or Jackson Hole. They would always take business jets, and after a while he could tell as he was getting up to the stairs what kind of plane it was. If it was anything but a G5, Cooper would throw a fit because the Gulfstream V was his preferred method of travel. Spoiled? Uh, yeah.

We have to keep an eye on our chocolate lab Shamus because he knows how to get ice from the ice/water dispenser on the fridge.

My Wife's dog (full name Sparky the King of Idiots) barks at other dogs or almost any animal on the TV as well as doorbells, or anyone else walking past our house if the front door is open. He does not seem to enjoy riding in the Mini - just sits there staring straight ahead. Strange. I think he can tell the difference between my Mini and my wife's honda - he ignores me when I come home, but charges for the back door when my wife comes home.... He likes her better (even though I feed him and take him for walks).

NEVER let a dog see you work an icemaker! I had to make a cardboard cover for ours, paint it white and attach it to the door for months before I could be assured that she wouldn't help herself to ice! Oh, and talk about spoiled! She will NOT drink out of her water bowl outside! She waits for me to come outside and turn the faucet on so she can get a fresh drink. She's a great dog but finicky as can be! I can't complain too much though. She knows almost 40 commands.

I'm so smart I've managed to prevent my "master" from realizing:

1. I know his NAM credentials
2. I know where his keys are
3. He's caught his son, but never caught me!!!

Oh sh*t he's coming!!!! Bye.

my pug definitely knows the mini exhaust....i'm throwing her a curveball on friday when i come home with the new milltek

i had a good "dog moment" last month when i used peanut butter to remove some zaino that got on my vinyl trim. i thought i got it all off....it looked real nice...but when i brought my wife out to see the results, both of the dogs were licking the trim it was hard to tear them away!
