Annoying noise from inside rear sidewalls

My '05 cabrio (built Sept '04) makes a very annoying rattle noise which seems to come from inside both rear seat sidewalls. It's most noticeable at slow speeds with the top down - doesn't matter whether the windows are up or down. The driver's side noise is right by my left ear.

Anyone know what makes this noise? Or even better how to fix it?

Is it the rear seat belts? Sometimes they rattle around if they are not fully retracted or the buckle can beat against the side panels & get quite noisy.

I have the same thing. I actually take the seat belt clips and put them up behind the loop at the top of the seat, but that's not the issue. The rattle is definitely behind the rear speakers somewhere(in my car at least), I've had it to the dealer twice, of course I get the "we fixed it" , no they didn't. Mines real bad over Botts dots(those raised road dots in Cali). I've yet to take it apart myself. If you find an answer, please let us know.

P.S. Mine's a Nov 04 build.

My Cabrio was a Sept 04 build. It had 2 issues with the rear side windows. The mechanism on both sides froze & was scratching the windows in an eliptical pattern both times. I don't recall hearing a rattle from back there, however. Do you have any scratches on the rear side windows?

Well, for me, the rear side windows had a lurching behavior the dealer fixed. All of the windows squeal horribly when it's hot out. Dealer says they fixed that too.

I have had both rear windows replaced under warranty for the "crescent shaped scratches" problem. This included installation of some updated internal clips as I remember.

It definitely not the seat belts banging against the rear side walls. (That's a different annoying noise)
My noise is coming from inside the rear walls and sounds a bit like a glass on plastic. Or styrofoam on plastic.

Resurrecting an old thread here. Did you find the cause of the rattle? My wife's car has a rattle of some kind on the driver's side that sounds like it's in where the rear side speaker is.

Did you check to make sure the slack on the seat belt is not hitting the rear side panels. Pull the belts to the top and use the belt slider as the holder. Keep the belts tight when not in use.
