Keeping Rear Window Clean

This is my 1st winter with a MINI cabrio. I live in Northeast Ohio where, in the winter, the roads seem to be in a constant state of snow, slush and road spray causing a problem with visibility through the rear window. I can clean the rear window and, within a mile or two, the window is almost impossible to see through again. Do others share this problem? Is there any secret that helps to keep it clean.

I put mud flaps on mine and it greatly reduced this problem. You still get some stuff there but it isn't nearly as bad.

I guess telling you to keep the top down in the winter won't help, huh?

Yes made by MINI. I had the dealership install them. I think they are barely noticable. Totally worth it.

Any chance you could provide a picture or two?

FYI .. in a private message response, Talus told me that he had them put on the front and back. The dealer told me that the front flaps are something like $20 and the rear are around $40. I'm not sure what they charge to install.

can't imagine installing mud flaps is hard
would love to see some pics of them on

im in Michigan, so i have the same dirty-boot syndrome going. I just use my side mirrors

looks like it depends on your year for rear ones. Mini made them for pre2005 cooper ONLY , and now for the next gen 07+ both cooper and S. Not sure if it would be possible to retrofit them :(

Good luck mate. Best you can do is get some Multivex mirrors and learn not to look out the rear. Guess that's why the tin tops have a rear blade, but us poor cabrio owners are destined to never look back - onward, forever forward!

TRhe mud flaps from MINI are great. The blend into the black and mount so that on the side view they are just after the reflectors. From the rear they make the car apper lower and wider. They protect the vehicle from most whell throw off. The rear one require the back wheels being removed for installation.

You put mud flaps on your cabrio? You don't happen to have the aero package do you? If so, from where did you get them?

Thanks

I've had good luck with waxing my rear window with Collonite wax, even a good coating of RainX will help

uhhh, having major problems keeping the rear clean. my service advisor did not think the rear mud flaps would help that much and weren't too attractive. i almost always back into parking spots because i'm terrified of backing out of a spot.

how about a rear mud flap pic?

Damn BG, this is a simple fix. You've got a Cabrio, right? Top Down Motoring = no salty road spray gunking up the backlight, dude. Best to buy a good set of earmuffs and a good anorak though.

MGCMAN -- LOL. I wish I could keep the top down all the time. This has been one hell of a winter. I shoveled 7 inches of "springtime" off the driveway on Easter weekend. Today it finally got up to 53 degrees. I put the top down, installed the windscreen, and, you guessed it .... IT STARTED TO RAIN!!!
