Photo needed - open MCSc from directly above

Hi all:

Does anyone have a nice photo of an open-roofed MCSc taken from directly above? (Ideally it would be cool blue with black bonnet stripes ... but if not, I can do that in Photoshop). I want to create a new set of icons for the navigation system, and need this photo as my starting point.

If successful, I'll gladly share the new icons with NAM.

Marco

The MINI International website has a whole collection of downloadable photos to use on the desktop: http://www.mini.com/com/en/mini_coop...eautyshots.jsp

Here are the MCSC and MCC in 800x600. They are also available in 1024x768 and 1280x1024.

Are these icons going to be for the factory navigation, or the Garmin Nuvi add-on nav unit?

If they'll work with the Nuvi, I'll be happy to buy a copy of the files when you're finished.

I heard that someone had already hacked the indicator files... Check w/ user: Crashton - I know he has them installed on his Garmin. I'd like to have a replacement icon for my Garmin, an older model, if possible.

Thanks!

I already have the "official" MINI icons on my non-MINI Nuvi, but none of the MINI-designed icons are convertibles. I've seen directions online telling how to make Garmin .SRF icon files from a collection of drawings of the car from different angles, but I don't have the artistic ability to make the individual picture files. If I could make them from photographs, it would be easier, but the pictures you need to start with are more "CAD-like", and that's where I run into trouble.

We have the factory nav in our '05 MCSc. There's a detailed post in the Nav / Audio forums that show how to change the icons. I have decent Photoshop and hacking skills, so I thought I'd give it a go.

If I come up with anything successful, I'll post them in the appropriate Nav thread. And maybe here, too.

If you want something more like a simplified line drawing rather than a photograph, look in the sales brochure for the convertible. The illustrations for the DSC and the alarm system have line drawings of the car viewed from above. If you don't have the brochure, I can scan it.

I found the blue one from the top, but not the red... I'd definitely use this on my Garmin when you do this, so please keep us informed. Thanks!!!!

If a line drawing might be easier to work from, I found this in the accessories catalog. Also, if there is sufficient resolution in the icon, it might be fun to have people in the car (or at least the driver), like in the attached photo.

You're right, the one with the people in it seems to make for a better icon. The top-down, with a black interior, shrinks down to a nondescript blue/black shape.

This one seems to have a bit more promise:

Hopefully it will stand out well enough on the NAV screen. Off to try and hack the NAV software...
