I bought my 05 Mini Cabrio on eBay! Help with my Top?
I just recieved my Mini. This car is sweet!!! The only problem is I can't get my top down
When the car arrived the shelf in the boot was just laying on the floor. I can not figure out how to put it where it belongs for my roof to open. This really sucks! I have never seen how it should go therefore I am stumped. Can any one step me through this? or better yet step me through with a few pics? I must go over 100 miles to Mahwah, NJ to have someone show me and I am afraid they would laugh!! Thanks a lot and by the way....Hi!

Hey Dizzyblonde, I just ran out to my car to snap some shots of how to put the shelf back into the boot of my cabrio...
Take a look at
https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...=1974&ppuser=0
Click on the pictures in order, e.g. the pic titled STEP 1 first, then STEP 2, etc. I couldn't get the pictures to post in order by default. Clicking on the picture should give you a larger view as well as a description of the picture and what needs to be done in that step to put the shelf back.
It's REALLY important to make sure that
a) The levers that secure the roof in steps 1 2 and 3 are put back firmly in their place after putting the shelf back in
and
b) the rear legs of the shelf are secure and pushed down into their resting places in the boot!
Youse others cabrios owners, if I forgot a step or didn't explain a step well enough in my linked album, please correct me and help Dizzyblonde out!
I hope this helped and good luck

I am PMing you my cell phone number, if need be I can talk you through it; or we can meet. However the Mahwah people would not laugh at you and soon you will find a 100 mile trip a joy...
The trick is to breath into a paper bag. After your oxygen levels stabilize the way the shelf fits is sort of logical. Figure it out the way you would sex, were you able to look carefully at both the male and female parts.
Thanks "toomuchfun" for the excellent pics! I appreciate everyones help very much. Mistro, I will call if I can't get this worked out, thanks Seems as if I had it in the right way by the pics? Male and female-LOL (Blue Bonnet) I hope there is not something else wrong. I have to go to work now but I will check on this later. I will let you all know. Thanks again!
The are two places the shelf will fit. Only in the one position will the top open. On the drivers side at the rear corner of the opening is a small plastic button / swith the shelf holds down when in place correctly, this is the interlock that if not held down will prevent the top operating. If you feel around and find this you'll understand more easily how and where the shelf must sit.
Happy Open Motoring!

Bummer!!! I thought that I had the shelf placed correctly. I am blonde but not that dizzy. The button is broken off and I can see loose parts inside the hole. I got to take a trip tp Mahwah! Oh well....Road trip...Cool! Thanks to you all for all the info. "mmatarella" the button info solved the problem. Thanks! I will keep you posted
Ah, glad I mentioned it then! Good luck, they'll fix her up for you!
Yes, My gallery pictures are pre-purchase from ebay. I am kind of curious how the ebay dealer got the top up and down with that button broken off? I guess I have to make a few phone calls, I am kinda mad. However, I am excited that I now know what it is and can be topless soon! I can't believe that so many of us bought cars on eBay...thats amazing! I bought because there is no inventory where I live in NE Pennsyvania. My car was shipped to me from Houston, TX. last Sunday. It is great to meet you all and I look forward to my mini forever! I am hooked. Cheers and thank you so much.
Went to Mahwah, NJ today, to Prestige MINI. They are the best! The roof is down!!! They fixed the button in the trunk. They fixed the list of other minor flaws and my MINI is just like brand spanking new! Thanks to Ed at prestige. I must say they are excellent there. They take care of every detail and I appreciated all the friendly faces! Thanks so much! I also want to thank everyone for trying to help me here even though it ended up being mechanical. Have a great day motoring.
Thanks Dizzy. I think the MINI service guys are empowered by MINIUSA or whomever to do their best. Even the guys who fail seem to be trying. Good for you your guys knew what to do. The great part is that they feel as good about it as you do! Way to go blond!
