R52 Exhaust help
Exhaust help
Just picked up Cecilia on Sat. and am looking to upgrade her exhaust. We have a Milltek Catback on Soulfire (our MCS) and love it.
I would love to hear some input and thoughts on what some of you have done with your exhaust so I can compare and see what they are like, since I really only know Milltek.
Thanks!

You're gonna have limited options with the cabrio, unless you further customize the aftermarket exhaust to fit - extra bracing, etc. gets in the way of exhausts made for the coupe. Only a few folks (including Milltek I think) have cabrio-specific versions.
. . . And you mentioned in another thread that you'll want the understrut system -- research specifically with that in mind, 'cause the Milltek and the M7 USS apparently interfere with one another. . . so you may have to prioritize.
You may want to consider just doing a one-ball conversion (check out Blimey's blog linked ^ for a good discussion of that) -- which would also save you money for other performance mods.

With our Milltek on Soulfire, we cut out the resinator, so it is loud and burbbly and I like that. Since I am a small car to begin with, I want people to be able to hear me coming...or going actually!
I have the Invidia on my Cabrio and I can't express to you how much I love it.
The only thing is that I had to have a exhaust shop put a custom bend in the Y pipe to make it fit right. It doesn't come ready to bolt on... Other than that its the sweetest sounding exhaust I've heard. It all comes down to personal preference and its a challenging decision.
The Invidia has a great low tone to it and is just loud enough to hear and be heard without Drone or being obnoxious. It also accentuates the burblepop that we all hold so dear. Its the way the car shoulda sounded straight from the factory if you ask me..
Like I said, it'll cost ya extra to make it fit perfectly to your Cabrio. I spent another $150 to have a shop put a custom bend in and adjust my hangers to get it to fit right. All worth it if you ask me. You'll find people posting the option of lowering the underbrace using washers or nuts for spacers so it will fit. To me that seemed to undermine the rigidity of the brace. Again, personal preference.

Blimey - now you've got me wondering how the dealer got my Zoomers to fit, because I have the USS too.
My sales guy gave me the Zoomers and the installation for free (after I test drove her and said, "man, this baby needs a real exhaust")...and I didn't go back into the service bay while they installed it.
Now I'm going to have to put on my coveralls and go out and crawl under her.

If it's not rattlin' then you're probably fine. Common problem is the resonator rattlin' on the USS brace. And the exhaust not bending around the rear stock braces as discussed above...
It does have a resonator right after the Cat. I don't have the USS bracing so I can't say on clearance..
